Weddings In Color

ddings In Color really helped us have the wedding of our dreams, and we can happily say we wouldn't have changed a thing. They focus on minority-owned businesses in the bay area and connected us to vendors who care deeply about culture, whether that be related to your ethnicity, where you were raised, or the one among the community you've built. This idea carries so deeply with them and really allows for a wedding focused on people and experiences rather than what’s traditional or trendy. We went with the classic package where a majority of the vendors were selected through Wedding in Color, and we managed any vendors used outside of their list. Because we chose most of our vendors off their list, a lot of our vendors had worked together in the past, making the day feel effortless, which really puts you at ease on your wedding day. All the vendors were incredibly friendly, professional, and exceeded our expectations. Our planner MJ was so supportive in making sure our wedding day felt like us. We brought her some crazy ideas like doing a mosh pit instead of a first dance or making a cocktail during our ceremony, and she in turn met us with other ideas like a lechon cutting and cardboard cutouts that were also untraditional but felt like us. Planning felt easy because MJ did all the hard work for us, making sure we could focus on the fun parts like tastings or picking music. We had the most relaxing year of wedding planning because we knew we could trust the Weddings in Color team. Our actual wedding day was magical. Seeing the room reveal was more beautiful than we imagined, and our guests said it was one of the most fun and memorable weddings they had attended.

anner/team, my partner and I were looking for folks that had experience working with POC and queer couples, that could work within our budget, and that had an eye towards style and embracing the unique. WIC is exactly that! We didn't come with a hugely specific vision -- nature elements, good food (lechon was a MUST), QPOC-inclusive, and good music/vibes. WIC helped us brainstorm to give more body to our vision and suggested venues and vendors based on that vision. The collective of vendors is AMAZING, btw -- such a stacked crew. We really appreciated having options to choose from instead of looking for a needle in a haystack (in fact, we wanted to go with a wedding planner/team because we got overwhelmed trying to do it on our own...too many choices out there). WIC was also really flexible and understanding whenever things popped up over the course of planning (e.g., helping us stay within budget, changes to the catering menu, showing empathy when family/personal life stuff came up, and keeping us accountable/on track while encouraging us to trust the process). We are so grateful for all that Gina, Tiara, Kaithleen, and the rest of the WIC crew have done for us to make our day special! Can't recommend these folks enough!!!

only because of the excellent work of Gina and her team at Make it Mariko that we were able to pull off a beautiful wedding. She even had to source venues, officiants, photographers, and florists for us at the last minute as other vendors backed out two weeks before the date. We simply could not have done it without her! She is calm, cool, and able to pull off spectacular events under pressure. We had a live-streamed ceremony with a drive-thru reception and we could not be happier! "Thank God for Gina and her team at Make it Mariko" is all we have to say!

wedding day. She's organized, detailed, and comes with a wealth experience and creative ideas that helped us have the wedding we pictured. We were able to incorporate all of the details that we wanted included in our wedding while being realistic and within our budget. Gina is part of a collective and knows a lot of other vendors in the industry - she made some great recommendations and referrals (but absolutely no pressure to use them!). She was very easy to communicate with and we had monthly and weekly meetings scheduled, but were also able to contact her any time for random questions. Gina is a joy to work with and we can confidently say that our wedding was a success because of her. Our wedding went SO smoothly because she was so on top of it with all details and managing everything from deliveries, vendors, to making sure everyone was where they should be, and ensuring the event ran on time. She was worth every penny - sometimes I still can’t believe how low stress our wedding planning and day of was. We can only thank Gina for that!
