There are not enough words to describe just how amazing this place is! From our first meeting with the event coordinator to the end of our reception, everything was just great. We...
had both our ceremony and reception at the Modern. Everything was perfect!
The hotel itself is in a lovely location in Waikiki next to the ocean, has some of the best modern and chic decor and several beautiful venues that are available for use for weddings of all sizes.
Renee, the event coordinator, was so easy to work with and made planning the whole thing a cinch! She was very flexible with outside vendors (with the exception of catering and lighting/audio), our decor and any special requests (like having our dog there)! She and Reese (her assistant) made sure both the ceremony and reception ran smoothly.
As for the reception, the food and drinks were AMAZING! Everyone from our wedding is still talking about the food!! They have a large selection of menus, appetizers, bar packages, etc, to choose from so there is something for everyone.
Overall, we could not have been happier with the Modern Honolulu!!! I highly recommend it for anyone having a destination wedding to Oahu, Hawaii, especially those that don't want an in-your-face-Hawaiian wedding.
Housekeeping cleaned our room twice a day. Every evening, we returned to our room with two bottles of water and a bucket full of ice. The location was perfect although hard to fi...
nd at first. Valet was a bit high at $28 per day.
We stayed at the Modern for the entire week during our wedding.
The Modern is a little piece of heaven. The staff is attentive to your every desire. The nightly turn down servi...
ce, which included fresh towels, ice, and a quick tidy up, was very nice. They pay extreme attention to every last detail, which goes a very long way.
My favorite part of the hotel is the adult only Sunset pool. Translation: no annoying kids screaming bloody murder.
The only drawback is the outgoing call charges; seems kind of petty to me, especially since I am paying good money to stay there. Why would you nickel and dime me on something like that?
My only other gripe would be the fact that we didn't get any special service on our wedding night. Most hotels would have left a bottle of complementary champagne. The Modern knew we were there for our wedding and they didn't provide anything. I guess we shouldn't have expected anything; just saying most other hotels would have.
Whatever you do, don't spin the bookcase in the lobby. They get very angry. Our group of friends were hanging out in their lobby bar and moved the bookcase a slight bit and staff came out of nowhwere, yelling at them. If you don't want your spinning bookcase to not spin, DON'T LET IT SPIN. It's that simple.
All of the staff at the Modern Honolulu were amazing! They were very professional and ensured that our night flowed smoothly. The food was AMAZING! My entire family was impreseed b...
y the venue. The drinks were delicious and the sunset view on the Sun and Suite Terrace cannot be beat. I think that they went above and beyond for our reception and I would definitely recommend them to my friends and family. If you want a wedding at a private Waikiki location with a sunset view, I would definitely choose this venue.
