The Grand Ballroom was perfect for us. We only had our reception there but could have easily seen it work for both.
Our reception had about 80 people (including our wedding party)...
and we used a mixture of round tables and long tables that really helped keep people grouped appropriately. We also were able to have a good sized dance floor for the DJ and never felt cramped even with him on one end and the buffet on the other.
Other reviewers talk a lot about Megan, The Grand's coordinator, and yall, she's amazing. I always felt comfortable asking for her advice or thoughts, she was super kind at every instant (though I'm sure we must have been a little annoying). She is a very clear communicator and just does an overall great job making you feel safe and cared for.
We chose the Grand because most of our party was from out of town so having most people stay at the hotel was perfect. ALSO, downtown McKinney is super walkable and has lots of restaurants, bars, and shops so people could just hang out the night before and day of and we even all got together for brunch the next day.
All food and alcohol and servers are in-house so we only had two bills, the initial deposit and our final bill that covered everything. I really liked not having to worry about vendors or ordering; it's all done there and their staff is wonderful. The food was amazing (it's from Rick's which is a steakhouse) and the drinks were delicious. We did beer and wine with signature cocktails to start. I thought it was really budget conscience that we could set our bar tab and if we got close, we could move to a cash bar. We didn't get remotely close but just knowing that we weren't going to end up with like a $5000 tab was really nice.
I would say two things. Parking really isn't great. We were on a tight budget so we didn't splurge to get Valet but if you have an event there on the weekend (Fri/Sat) I would say it's probably a must. Secondly, and this is just the tiniest of nits, but there is a $2/slice cake cutting fee. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter and you probably save that money with the linens and extra decor and table numbers they let you use but it was still silly.
Overall, our wedding was just the best. The Grand is gorgeous, the staff are wonderful, the hotel is super cool, and we cannot recommend it enough.

ded the perfect setting for our celebration, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. Megan, the wedding director, was truly incredible to work with -- she is so kind, professional, and experienced! r talking to her, we didn’t need to talk to any other people regarding the reception selection. Megan was patient and kind in explaining all the reception details to us and responded to emails in a timely manner. We had a great reception at Rick’s with good venue, good food, and good sleep. It was an unforgettable night. Thank you Megan and the Grand Hotel & Ballroom staff, we were so lucky to have you!
The staff of the Grand Hotel were fantastic! So easy to work with, well organized and on the ball. The planning process and our wedding went so smoothly. I highly recommend them...

I couldn't imagine a more beautiful venue in which to be married. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and ensured everything went smoothly.
This was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding. To be honest, we didn't look at any other venues. Once I walked into the ballroom and saw the old fashioned tin roof with GORGE...
OUS chandeliers, I was sold. This was where we were going to have our wedding. Also, if you want to have amazing food at your wedding that your guests will continue to rave about months later, you have to book The Grand Hotel. Rick's does an amazing job with the food! Everything was delicious. We have had so many compliments about the food! Megan Lamm was awesome! She made sure we had all the details for our wedding and that everything ran smoothly. She was an absolute charm to work with! :D
Overall, it was the best weekend ever. Our wedding party and close family stayed at the hotel with us Friday through Sunday morning. Then we had brunch at Rick's Sunday morning after the wedding. All our guests loved how different each of the rooms were decorated. Jacque was so awesome at accommodating all our needs (and we were kind of needy) but she handled us very well! :D I can't say enough how nice and professional the whole team at The Grand Hotel was. We could not have had a more perfect wedding.
We had our reception here and it was literally perfect. We also stayed in the owners suite (211). When we arrived for the reception they greeted us with champagne and took us to ou...
r room to have a second, and then when we entered the ballroom I had a martini already waiting for me at my table. Megan (the wedding coordinator) was so awesome and helpful the entire time we planned and even on the day. By the end of the night, when we got back to our room, all of our gifts were already there. It was just a wonderful experience all around.

rdinator and she is great. She is on top of everything, friendly and took care of lots of little details I would have forgotten about. My experience using them for my reception and spending my wedding night in the hotel rooms was amazing!
We booked a block of rooms at the Grand Hotel for our wedding. The groom was from Australia and the bride was a local to the DFW area. We weren't sure how many guests were going to...
be able to come over so we booked up the whole hotel and ended up dropping a few of the rooms closer to the event. We really loved the flexibility that the Grand Hotel allowed in their room blocks. They were so easy to work with! Jacque was always willing to answer incessant questions about bookings and constantly make changes. She was really good and so kind!
We never had time to make welcome bags for our guests, but the hotel (with the help of the city) put a bag in each of our rooms full of a few goodies and some pamphlets on things to do in McKinney. Nice touch!
The two suites are fantastic! The grand suite (the larger of the two suites) has lots of windows and tons of natural light! The only thing missing is a refrigerator. The owner's suite is slightly smaller, but is located in the old wing of the hotel and does have a mini-fridge.
Amazing hotel, guests loved it! And we were able to have our rehearsal and brunch at the restaurant attached. That was amazing too!
Hands down the best experience of the wedding. Shawna and melody are amazing along with the rest of the staff. Shawna took us by the hand at our food tasting and went over every de...
tail of the wedding. All my friends said they had something that went wrong at their wedding and they couldn't enjoy the wedding as much as they wish they could. I think because shawna and the grand hotel were so organized we had no issues at all.

g itself. The food catered by Rick's Chophouse was really good and the Ballroom itself is so beautiful. The wedding coordinator's for the hotel are very friendly and easy to work with. They went out of their way to make sure my event ran smoothly. We were also very impressed by the hotel itself. Great service, charming rooms, and good food! Many of our guests stayed there as well and had nothing but positive comments. I look forward to returning to The Grand Hotel and Rick's Chophouse for anniversaries!
