My husband and I chose Gardens of Woodstock because we dreamed of an outdoor wedding that felt peaceful, relaxed, and surrounded by nature. We are the kind of couple who loves bein...g outdoors, and the property is undeniably beautiful. It had so many elements that reminded us of my husband's proposal. The ceremony space is scenic, the grounds are well-maintained, and it creates a calm atmosphere that allows guests to feel comfortable and connected. If your vision is an outdoor garden wedding with a simple, natural backdrop, this venue certainly delivers on aesthetics.
Unfortunately, our experience with venue management significantly diminished what would have otherwise been a wonderful recommendation. Throughout the planning process, it became apparent that additional fees were added wherever possible. We were required to supply our own beverages despite paying for venue-provided bartending staff. We were also informed after signing our contract and finalizing our payment schedule that an additional $370.84 would be added due to a sales tax on the venue rental fee. While taxes themselves are understandable, receiving unexpected charges after contracts and payment plans were already established left a poor impression. Privacy and guest experience were also concerns. During our rehearsal, prospective clients were being shown the property while we were trying to prepare for our wedding. Even more surprising, tours continued on the morning of our wedding. While my girls and I were changing in and out of pajamas and robes getting ready, strangers were walking through and viewing our bridal suite. Having non-guests present during those intimate moments felt extremely invasive and uncomfortable. Money was certainly made, hand over fist.
And none of what we had discussed table and chairs wise was set up for our event as was depicted in our floor plan in advance. I spoke to the venue owner regarding this and I had to send my day of coordinator out to resolve all of these issues to ensure everything was in place before the catering company arrived with linens to ensure it was managed and not done in a mad rush just before our reception.
Additionally, the indoor women’s restroom in the cocktail hour space remained locked during our rehearsal and throughout our entire wedding day, forcing my female family and friends to rely only on outdoor restroom facilities despite us being told that indoor facilities would be available. During our reception, the tent fans were turned off despite temperatures reaching around 80 degrees. The tent became extremely hot and uncomfortable, and many guests and vendors (including the catering staff) commented on the heat throughout the evening. Several guests ultimately left earlier than planned because of how warm and stuffy the reception space became.
The most important thing is that we still had an incredible wedding day because we were surrounded by so much love, joy, and support from our family and friends. The beauty of the property helped create wonderful memories, and our vendors worked hard to make the day special despite these challenges.
That said, if I could go back and choose a venue again, I would choose another beautiful place somewhere else. The scenery is stunning and we have lovely photos from the day, but the repeated upcharges, lack of privacy, lack of follow through and decisions that negatively impacted guest comfort overshadowed what should have been a stress-free and peaceful experience.
