The Bigger Picture Photography, Lisa Shaw

il chain with Lisa is something like 60 emails long, and that should tell you something about how committed, detail-oriented, and communicative she is. She dealt with my scattered bride brain for months with the utmost professionally and accommodation, and I am so grateful to her for that. She is truly wonderful. Lisa made everyone at our wedding feel so comfortable, and her eye is unmatched. She's an artist, and such a lovely person to boot. My husband Jake and I did private vows during our first look, and at first I was nervous to have a photographer there, but then I met Lisa. Lisa made us so comfortable that it was easy. We hardly even knew she was there at times throughout the day - so I know she got all the best shots of us in our most natural states. Lisa bonded so well with our wedding party and she added an element of fun and enjoyment to our day. She even made our eons-long family photo shoot feel fun and efficient. We could not be happier with our choice of Lisa as our photographer, and I would recommend her 10 times out of 10. I know our photos will gorgeous and different - not at all the same old wedding photos we've all seen time and time again. Lisa, thank you for your amazing services and for making our day so special! We are so grateful to you. Love, Jake and Kirstin Birkhaug

tive and all around amazing!

be happier with the results. She's very friendly, easy going person and working with her was so much fun. She has such a great eye and will find that shot you didn't know you had in you. Very easy to work with and open to ideas to incorporate to make any session perfect. We are beyond thrilled with the quality and the attention to detail she put into them. She’s beyond to make sure you are happy. She captured all of our important moments beautifully, and her artistic range really showed in her ability to take stunning pictures of our venue's scenery, our ceremony, and all of us moving on the dance floor! Her work is unique, romantic, stylish, and authentic-she truly captured all the love and beauty of our day.

a is AMAZING. You will not regret hiring her, and when your wedding is over you’ll realize all the things that would’ve gone wrong without her guidance. If you are looking for a photographer to truly DOCUMENT your day, Lisa is the photographer for you. The little glances, the toss-your-head-back laughs, the tears in the eyes… Lisa somehow captures all of these moments without you realizing she’s there. She also does some “traditional” photos (ex: family pictures in the church) so you get the best of both worlds – candid, in-the-moment, artistic shots and traditional, posed shots that your parents and grandparents love to hang on the wall. Here are some of the things we loved about Lisa: *She truly is a wonderful person - SO easy to talk to and instantly makes you feel like a close friend. *She always answered e-mails promptly, and when we set up phone consultations she called exactly when she said she would. Lisa is very reliable and easy to communicate with (even if you live out of town like we do). *She gave a lot of awesome suggestions that helped us plan our wedding, but wasn't pushy at all. We ended up taking her suggestions and we are so thankful! I can honestly say our wedding timeline felt perfect, and Lisa was instrumental in planning it. *She wasn't just a photographer to us - she was also a wedding planner and a calming presence (reminding us to enjoy the moment, relax, breathe, etc). It's easy to get lost in the details when planning a wedding, but Lisa reminded us to have fun and made it easy to enjoy the day. *Lisa is incredibly organized - many of our family members commented on how organized she was, and how much they appreciated it. Family pictures were a breeze! *I hate getting my picture taken, but Lisa made the engagement photos and wedding photos easy. We didn't even notice she was there 95% of the time. No awkward poses and cheesy smiles... just the two of us having fun while she took pictures. *Let me tell you, Lisa's pictures are gorgeous. She posted a preview of our wedding photos on Facebook and I had multiple people tell me they were the best wedding pictures they'd ever seen. Everyone loved the special moments she caught on camera: my now-husband giving me a little smirk during the ceremony, my dad crying when he saw me for the first time, the 2 year old flower girl stopping to talk to her grandpa while she walked down the aisle, and so many more. *Lisa goes above and beyond to be helpful, even if it isn't related to wedding planning/photos. We told her about our plans to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon and she's given us lots of tips (since she used to live in Maui). I guess she's part-time vacation planner too! I really could go on and on about how wonderful Lisa is. If you're struggling to choose a photographer, just look at her reviews, and then look at her responses. So much positivity! Lisa is someone who makes your day brighter because of her kindness. We all know that weddings are stressful, so why not hire a photographer who makes you feel great and is fun to hang out with? It's a no brainer! THANK YOU Lisa for everything you've done for us - before, during, and now after our wedding. I'm so happy we found your page on The Knot! Looking forward to catching up soon and getting Maui food recommendations. :)

to pose or worry about the camera. We'll definitely choose Lisa again for future photo needs.

ith suggestions and recommendations. We just got our preview back, and I am obsessed with how amazing every single picture turned out - Lisa is AMAZING at what she does!!

f a busy schedule, and she was really fun to work with! She is very responsive and answered all the questions I had throughout the process. Both our engagement session and wedding were no less than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, but Lisa perfectly captured all of the love we felt and fun we had on those days. Her photo-journal style of photography really allowed my husband and I to really be ourselves while she documented the day. She has an eye for great shots. She also was really great about capturing shots we saw on Pinterest and wanted to attempt. In addition to the amazing photos, Lisa was a great person to have around on my wedding day. She was a calming presence on what turned out to be a chaotic day full of drunk bridesmaids and A LOT of competing family personalities. She captured the best of everything, and I'm so thankful she was there!

so sure it was) Lisa kept in contact with me the entire time! From the moment she stepped into the crazy boathouse we were all getting ready at, she was like family! I gave her very little direction of what I wanted, but she somehow just knew! She is GREAT at what she does and I would highly recommend her for any sort of photography needs.

, and we were extremely satisfied with Lisa.

akes everything so easy, she was a perfect fit for us. She is friendly and upbeat while being professional and staying on task. We can't recommend her enough!

that drew me to choose The Bigger Picture was her documentary style of photography. I do wish that we would have gotten more posed pictures with myself and the bridesmaids but we were limited on time. Our videographer also struggled to get some shots because she moved around so frequently but other than that, I would highly recommend! We can't wait to see our finished products!

ell. Honestly, most of the time I forgot she was there, which is a great thing. We got our preview back very quickly, and our pictures were completely finished in a very reasonable amount of time. I will recommend The Bigger Picture to anyone who needs a photographer

g, she took the time to get to know us and what we were hoping to capture through photographs. Her calm demeanor and sense of humor combined with her artistic talent created the perfect mix. We had so much fun working with her! She interacted with such joy with everyone at our wedding and her photographs reflect that. They tell the story in vivid detail, beautifully capturing the happiest day of our lives. We are forever grateful!

ple in the pictures. I also wanted the photographer to be assertive (because we have a large combined family), nurturing and kind (because we HATE having photos taken), and someone who would know when to listen to our requests and also know when to make some of the decisions based on their experience. Miraculously, we found such a person in Lisa. Our engagement photos took place at our home. Lisa was great with our barky dogs and quickly made us feel at ease. Laughter and sincerity were both present during the photo shoot and were reflected in the photos. This “magic” continued to our wedding day. Lisa was able to roll with the changing weather and the close to 50 family members who all needed to be corralled. Lisa was able to capture our day in a way that told our story through candid photos and images that radiated love. I would recommend Lisa to anyone who is looking for a photographer who has an artistic flair, a bigger picture perspective, and the flexibility to capture magic whatever the day may bring.

. I cannot wait to see the rest of the photos and I am interested in booking you for my wedding!

of both the bride and the groom. I would definitely recommend.

how she was able to truly capture the emotion on the day of our wedding. Especially because I didn't even notice she was there! I'd recommend her to anyone. She's professional, available by email, answered my 1,000 questions I of course had. We've worked with several other photographers getting family photos done and she is by far the best we've worked with. And now the only one we'll work with :)

ctful. We received so many great shots! She honestly felt like a part of our family with the amount of support and love she expressed. She captured our truest moments and has a great eye for detail. Posed photos can get old, so it was great to have the photojournalism style to our candid photos. Lisa communicated with us every step of the wedding process and we were thrilled she provided us with a suggested timeline. It truly kept the entire wedding party organized! Planning a wedding from down south was a challenge but Lisa made it so smooth! We are forever grateful that she was there to capture one of the happiest moments of our lives!

y helped my husband and I feel comfortable in front of the camera. She has a photojournalistic style where many photos are candid, but she gave direction and ideas for poses to get started. The engagement pictures were well done but I wasn't so pleased with how I looked in them, so having the engagement session as a "trial" really helped me be more aware of how I smiled and composed myself for our wedding day pics. Our wedding pics were phenomenal. I loved how both myself and my husband looked in them, and even some family members who are not particularly photogenic looked great in them! The posed family pictures were just as good as the organic, observed moments she captured. She managed to turn personal, trivial exchanges into beautiful snapshots, such as when my husband was showing me a cut on his hand, or when our nephew was touching the embroidery on my dress. We also have an aunt that is the "designated photographer" at family events with her own camera, and Lisa handled that with grace and professionalism. Our aunt kept setting up shots and telling people to get together and pose during the reception, and I noticed Lisa would take the opportunity to snap photos of other people enjoying themselves, or taking ring detail shots instead. She was very prompt and responsive to emails or texts, and was always professional, very easy going, and sweet. I did not enjoy wedding planning, and she made the photography part of planning very easy to manage. I would've preferred to have a more low-key, private celebration, but ultimately decided to have a wedding because my husband wanted one and for our families to enjoy. When we got the sneak peek from Lisa, I was so pleased with how they came out that it made me feel like the wedding was worth it. We are not a physically affectionate couple but many friends and family said they were able to see the love captured in the photos. I highly recommend Lisa and believe her work rivals other wedding photographers with much higher starting price points. She's definitely an artist that also photographs weddings -- she knows her stuff.

or our photos. Turn around time was quick for product delivery. Having a second shooter was also great to capture different perspectives.

res turned out and how perfectly they captured our personalities.

at ease when we were both nervous and reluctant to be photographed on our wedding day. Her work is the best. She captured every moment for us in such wonderful pictures. We couldn't have been happier with all of the photographs. Her unique eye for capturing special moments made our pictures one of a kind. We would recommend her to anyone. We just loved her and our pictures!

o anyone!!!

ppiness and pure bliss of marrying my best friend at Michigan Stadium (our favourite place on earth) in the presence of our closest family and friends. Our wedding was truly the best day of our lives and Lisa captured every moment as no one else could. I am so grateful for her and would recommend her to anyone!

morable. All of her pictures she took at our wedding were very crisp and clean. I highly recommend her to anybody for quality memories at any occasion.

o any email or phone call which is so nice when you're planning a wedding. I get endless compliments about my pictures. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for those classic wedding photos but also wants unique and edgy ones to go with Lisa!

lawlessly across multiple locations. I would recommend her for your wedding without question.

sh air to work with and I am 100% satisfied with how everything turned out.

etting up interesting backgrounds for our pictures.

et what you pay for. Lisa is a talented artist and her style was exactly what we had envisioned. She worked with us to get what we wanted within our budget. I would love to hire her in the future for portraits of our family.

t - I am in love with our wedding pictures!

d even the posed pictures with the family look natural.

so glad I took their advice and went with the Bigger Picture Photography. Lisa was so great to work with. We live on the other side of the state so we didn't get to meet ahead of time (just coordinated everything on the phone), but in no time I felt comfortable and felt she "got" us. She has a great eye for angles and color, and you can tell she's passionate about what she does. Also, as someone who hates her posed smile, Lisa's style really worked for me. Our pictures are natural and our smiles are genuine. We love our pictures, and we're so glad we went with The Bigger Picture Photography.

so patient with us and was a huge help in our overall wedding planning. Because of her experience, she had great insight for things to consider well beyond photography. Rather than a simple business transaction, she develops relationships with her clients, making it that much more enjoyable for all parties. Not to mention - most importantly - she is an extremely talented photographer. She met each and every one of our requests and exceeded all of our expectations! If you're looking for a fantastic photographer and a great person, give Lisa at the Bigger Picture a call.
