We had our wedding at The Atrium and I would not recommend Wedgewood Weddings. The service was practically nonexistent. This felt less like full-service wedding planning and more l...ike renting a venue with one caterer and one decorator option. If you want to overpay, deal with constant staff turnover, and receive little customer service, this is the place for you.
The Bad
Service: The Design Center contacted us to schedule our initial appointment. After that, communication mostly occurred when payments were due. We were promised a quote within a week of our design appointment, but three weeks passed before I had to follow up. We repeatedly had to initiate the next steps ourselves.
Invoicing: I constantly had to request updated costs reflecting our actual wedding details. They continued sending generic estimates based on an outdated guest count of 50 instead of 70+. Twice, I caught invoice errors, including duplicate charges for chairs and linens.
Misrepresentation: We were repeatedly told one thing verbally, only to hear something different weeks later. Eventually, I began recording calls and meetings.
The Train: During all four venue visits, we heard a passing train blasting its horn. Each time, we were told it stopped running by 5 p.m. Our ceremony began at 6:30 p.m., and the train sounded its horn during our vows.
Officiant: We paid for their officiant service and specified that, for our black-tie wedding, he needed to wear a suit. Instead, he arrived in dress boots, dirty jeans, and a cheap sports coat. His visibly stained jeans appear in our wedding photos.
Cake Service: Several guests never received wedding cake, because they were dancing and note seated. We were charged a per-person serving fee, yet not everyone was served.
Accountability and Turnover: There was no clear accountability or direct email contact; everything went through sales@theatrium.com. Over 18 months, we dealt with numerous different employees despite being promised one point of contact.
The Good
The plated dinner and appetizers were excellent. Unfortunately, the positive food experience didn't make up for everything else.
Our Experience
When we signed our contract 18 months before the wedding, The Atrium was owned by another company. We learned of the sale about nine months before our September wedding. We considered walking away from our several-thousand-dollar date deposit, and I wish we had, but finding another venue that late seemed nearly impossible.
We were promised considerable flexibility with the space when booking. After paying half the contract amount upfront, we finally had our first meeting. Christina told us the sales representative was brand-new, had never attended one of the company's weddings, and had given us incorrect information. We felt we had been sold a false picture of what to expect. Christina was also unprepared and didn't have our selections from the tasting we'd attended months earlier. Two weeks later, she left.
Concerned that we'd paid thousands for something misrepresented, I requested a corporate contact authorized to discuss restitution. I was told, "I don't have a contact at corporate."
The planning process was exhausting, communication was poor, promises weren't kept, and staff turnover was constant. We felt misled and let down throughout the experience.
I strongly encourage couples to carefully review their contracts, get every promise in writing, verify all invoices, and think twice before committing.
