Instead, we ended up finding our own ceremony location, caterer, and the house where family traveling from around the country would be staying. Much of the communication we received also felt generic and AI-generated rather than personalized to us. So, ironically, I am using AI to help organize this review. We repeatedly explained that many Outer Banks businesses are old-school and often need actual phone calls rather than emails. Despite that, months went by with very little meaningful progress. When most of the planning had already been handled by us, we asked for help moving chairs and were essentially told, “I don’t usually do that, but I will for you.” Considering we were among her first clients and had already done most of the work ourselves, that was frustrating. We also felt our ideas were regularly pushed aside for whatever option was easiest. During one disagreement, we felt she was insinuating that our wedding could be a disaster if we did not follow her preferred direction. Eventually, we terminated the relationship. During the planning process, we had been told she contacted the rental company for the house where our family would be staying. When we later asked for those emails, we were told they had been deleted and that she had contacted them through her business email. We contacted the rental company directly. They told us they had never received those earlier communications from Taylor Ryan Events. Then, the day after we terminated her services, the rental company received an email from a separate address alleging that we were violating codes at the property. The email stated, “I advise them against breaking these codes.” We cannot prove who created or sent that email, so I will not publicly claim who did. However, the timing and wording were extremely concerning to us. That situation put at risk the house where our family traveling from across the country was staying. We are no longer having our reception there, but this was not simply a reception venue—it was our family’s accommodation for the wedding. My wife is also pregnant and has had to deal with all of this additional stress during what should have been an exciting time for our family. We hired a wedding planner to reduce our workload, communicate with vendors, solve problems, and help bring our vision to life. Instead, we did most of the important planning ourselves and dealt with even more stress after ending the relationship. I strongly recommend getting everything in writing, requesting copies of vendor communications, and independently verifying that important conversations actually happened. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Taylor Ryan Events.
