It was evident at that point that they were capable of putting out great tasting food for a good sized crowd and not just for a party of 2, which isn’t an easy feat. It was an easy choice for us to select them as our caterer and the service we received every step of the way confirmed we had made the right selection. They were incredibly responsive, transparent, and accommodating. Sophie, in particular, helped us to make our Valentine’s Day themed wedding vision become a reality. The food on the day of did not disappoint! Many of our guests raved about how it was some of the best wedding food they had ever had. We constantly say- that brown butter aioli… you could put that on an old shoe and we’d eat it. SO. GOOD. We elected to do buffet style and found pricing to be in line with that of most other buffet options. They do also offer a military discount. We also did our dinnerware and tablecloth rental through them, which made it super easy! Overall, could not recommend them enough!

There is a great variety to choose from, including vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-friendly options (that aren't just black bean burgers!). The pros: it's all delicious. The cons: it was incredibly hard to choose a menu because we wanted it all. We got appetizers, buffet service, desserts, coffee, late night snacks, and linen and china rental all in the same place, and it was incredibly easy. Betsy, our coordinator, was wonderful to work with, responded to emails quickly, answered all of our questions, and made sure we had everything we needed. The catering staff that was working on the day of was so friendly and helpful, too. We cannot recommend Tall Guy enough!

The presentation, the service, the sheer volume and variety of dishes – it gave us confidence right then and there that we were in great hands. But we didn’t stop there – we opted for a private tasting so we could go even deeper into the seasonal menu and carefully craft the perfect spread. And with Betsy guiding us every step of the way – asking the right questions, sharing thoughtful suggestions, and always being quick and clear in her communication – we felt incredibly supported and excited for what was to come. Come wedding day, the entire Tall Guy & A Grill team executed flawlessly. Not a single beat was missed. Given the unique layout of our venue, we chose to go with family-style service, which made us slightly nervous about timing and food quality, especially when it came to meat staying juicy and tender. Let us assure you: every single dish was PERFECTION. We still cannot get over how fall-off-the-bone tender the smoked chicken and braised beef short ribs were – so juicy, so flavorful, not a hint of dryness in sight. The mashed sweet potatoes? Creamy, rich, and absolutely unforgettable. People are still texting us to ask for the recipe! The maple-glazed carrots and roasted green beans were fresh, beautifully seasoned, and plated with care. You could genuinely taste the passion and precision in every single bite. To say the food was a hit would be an understatement. We personally received over 30 messages from our guests raving that this was the best food they had ever had at a wedding – and honestly, we agree. It blew us (and them) away. Of course, no celebration is complete without a great bar – and that’s where Crafted Tavern comes in. Their bartending team kept the good vibes (and delicious drinks) flowing all night long. They flawlessly executed our signature Old Fashioneds and Manhattans, crafted with Maker’s Mark bourbon, and kept the bar line moving with speed and smiles. Guests kept commenting on how smooth and well-made the drinks were, and we couldn’t agree more. From top to bottom, this entire experience was beyond our wildest dreams. In addition, the menu stayed true to Wisconsin which we felt was important as we were a couple living in IL but looking for a menu that displayed our roots of being born and raised in WI. It was an elegant menu with the perfect amount of comfort which we appreciated as we were looking for the perfect cross between upscale and semi-formal with a twist from the typical protein, potato, and veggie plate. Working with Erica was great - she answered all our questions and was patient with us as we decided what was best for us for our dessert options and explored several options before landing on something. They even worked with us when we wanted to make a modification to our salad choice. Our wedding was over a month ago and I’m still hearing from guests how great the food was. As we did family style I was worried we’d risk food coming out to the tables luke warm or cold but that was definitely not the case. My guests received a hot meal and were thrilled when more was served when the first platters were emptied. Lastly, in addition to catering to all of our guests, Tall Guy and a Grill catered to my husband and I with such great thought. As any bride knows, it’s difficult to make it to cocktail hour and while it was our goal to make it to ours we weren’t able to join as long as we would have liked. When dinner started we were both pleasantly surprised to see our own small charcuterie and a plate of our hot appetizers waiting for us to enjoy at our sweetheart table. If you are looking for a caterer that offers a unique menu, local produce, and caters to your wants as a couple, Tall Guy is for you. The options are plenty and everything delicious. They were our first and only caterer we looked at and we regret nothing. Tall Guy and Grill was everything we hoped for and more for our big day.

The extra gesture of having a plate of our appetizers sitting at our seats since we missed them all during cocktail hour shows this group's attention to detail! I loved how much they cared about sustainability and they were so familiar with the Urban Ecology Center that they were able to come right in without any help. Going into it, I think we both favored Tall Guy but let me tell you, they far exceeded our already gleaming view of them. The tasting experience was wonderful. Brit was awesome. She let me go back and forth a few times on a few small details and it was not a big deal to her. She was so accommodating! She took all the pressure off me leading up to the wedding. Everything was planned out so perfectly, even when COVID threw some changes our way. Now, let me get to the most important part : the food!!! I think we’ve all had many weddings with chicken and beef as the main entrees, but I’ll tell you, so many people came up to me during the reception and even days after that the Smoked BBQ Chicken quarter was THE BEST chicken they’d ever had. Not just for wedding food, but ever. I couldn’t agree more. It was even better than I remember during the tasting. Juicy, fall off the bone chicken *chefs kiss*. The petite filet was delicious as well, but it came in behind the chicken based on guest feedback. Either way, we were so so SO happy with Tall Guys service and food and everything in between. They even gifted us a bottle of their delicious BBQ sauce. Run, don’t walk, to book them!

We were also so excited about Tall Guy's "farm to table" mentality, and their seasonal choices to support local Wisconsin farmers. With lots of out of town guests, that "taste of Wisconsin" was so important to us. Our point of contact, Alissa, was beyond patient and wonderful. From an easy to read invoice, to a prompt response on questions, it was really easy to know exactly what you were getting and track every change. Alissa was incredible when our event downsized due to COVID-19, and the team worked with us to re-schedule our original April 2020 event with kindness and compassion, which were so valued. On the day of our wedding, the food was outstanding, and the entire staff working the event were professional, kind and accommodating. From grabbing my bouquet and putting it in water for me, to making sure that my husband and I got fed during our cocktail hour, the team was so warm and kind. During dinner, the team handled every transition with ease, and helped to make sure the whole thing ran so smoothly. Our guests were wow'ed by the food. I don't think anyone expects the food at weddings to be THAT good, but Tall Guy really makes you feel like you're eating at a 5 star restaurant. We also worked with Tall Guy for our bartending, and the custom cocktails were perfectly executed. Our guests had nothing but great things to say about our very professional and lovely bartender, and she made sure that the drinks were flowing with ease and such a professional demeanor. If you're looking for catering that really takes it up a notch, Tall Guy should absolutely be your go to.
