About this vendor
Smokin J's BBQ is a wedding catering company based in San Diego, CA, that can bring smoking barbecue cuisine to your special day on the California coastline. At this family-owned restaurant, everything is prepared from scratch using the best slow-smoking techniques—a recipe for barbecue success! You won't just find the Smokin J's pitmasters at the restaurant; you'll find them anywhere there's a party to celebrate and a crowd to feed.
Owner Jeremy George attended school in St. Louis, MO, one of the great homes of barbecue in the Midwest. He would spend weekends traveling around, visiting all the barbecue eateries he could find. A culinary passion soon blossomed, and Jeremy brought his beloved barbecue back to California, a state where many believed "real" barbecue couldn't be found! He proved the skeptics wrong then, and Smokin J's BBQ is still proving them wrong today.
Your wedding menu from Smokin J's BBQ will be completely customized to suit your tastes and preferences. The team will arrive at your venue with their smoker at the ready so they can finish smoking your meat right in front of you and your guests. Your food can be set up buffet-style or family-style, depending on the ambiance of your big day. Smokin J's also offers an incredible selection of sides and sauces for you and your loved ones to sample. And, who could forget one of the most important accompaniments, fresh cornbread?

Absolute Heroes! Spectacular Food in the Middle of a Tropical Storm!
If you want a catering team that delivers stellar, highly complimented food even when mother nature is at her ...
absolute worst, hire Smokin J’s.
Our wedding day was hit by a literal tropical storm, which could have easily spelled disaster for our dinner. Instead, Smokin J’s handled the extreme weather with absolute professionalism, grace, and unmatched adaptability. They didn't just get through the storm—they completely knocked it out of the park.
Our guests could not stop raving about the dinner. Hours after the reception (and all over our social media the next day), everyone was talking about how incredible and delicious the food was. To pull off a meal that memorable under perfect conditions is impressive, but to do it in the middle of a tropical storm is nothing short of heroic.
They kept our guests fed, happy, and warm, turning what could have been a stressful situation into one of the absolute highlights of our wedding.
Thank you, Smokin J’s, for saving the day and giving us a spectacular wedding meal we will never forget!

wedding weekend Tommy and his team were the most responsive and seamless- hands down. All communication was so fast and consistent. Day of, the food came on time and they took care of all the set up to have such amazing catering. Even some of our guests said the food they had from Smokin J’s was better than the food we had at the wedding. We even had friends go to Smokin J’s in Poway the day after the wedding they loved it so much. If you want bbq for your celebration - you need this team!
We are so glad we went with Smokin J's to cater our wedding. Tommy the general manager was our main contact while we set up the order and he was awesome to work with, he gave us h...
elpful pointers and updates whenever we asked. One of the owners Josh stepped in and helped get some last-minute boxes checked. Jason the executive chef in Poway cooked and handled the delivery. The lemonade and water arrived perfectly on time before the ceremony started while the food arrived afterwards as planned. We ordered brisket, chicken, mac & cheese, mama's chicken salad, dinner rolls, and succotash. Jason knocked it out of the park with the food. Everyone was impressed and it really elevated our wedding experience. Thank you Smokin J's!

!! Tommy, Josh, Jeremy were all very quick to respond and were attentive to all of our needs. We came in with no recommendations and were hoping it worked out and they did not disappoint!!!
Already a regular client of theirs, we figured they would knock it out of the park with our special day. Smokin' Js catered our 80 person wedding with a self serve buffet this past...
weekend and we were beyond happy with the food, service and overall vendor experience. All of our guests raved about how good the food was, and we had lots of leftovers for the next day (you cannot go wrong with the Brisket, Pulled Pork and Cornbread). If you're looking for good service and amazing BBQ, this is it!
We hosted our Engagement Party at the Downtown San Diego Smokin J's BBQ location and it was absolutely perfect! Josh and the team are so friendly, caring, and amazing to work with,...
they made it so easy and fun. We had about 40+ people so we fit easily in this venue to one side indoors. Everyone loved the food and the atmosphere. The venue has high ceilings and a really open space vibe, which is great for parties.
The bar has a great selection of beers and something for just about everyone, including great craft sodas!
Josh went above and beyond to make our event perfect and memorable, and we got so much fantastic feedback from our guests about how great the BBQ was and how much of a great time they had.
I would definitely recommend hosting any type of wedding or pre-wedding events at this location or working with them for catering. I wish we had photos, but everyone was having too much of a good time!
