About this vendor
Situated in Pittsburgh, PA, Mattress Factory Museum is a museum venue that offers a stunning backdrop for weddings and special events. As an internationally celebrated museum that focuses on contemporary artwork, the location is ideal for modern couples who want their wedding to stand out. Located in the heart of the city, this one-of-a-kind property provides a chic and intimate space for nuptial celebrations.
Built in 1900, this building acquired its name due to its previous use as a mattress factory, where Sterns & Foster products were created. After being purchased by Barbara Luderowski in 1975, it was reimagined as a cultural space for contemporary works. This museum has since showcased artwork and installations from over 750 artists. Doubling up as a fantastic location for special events, the museum offers both indoor and outdoor spaces. A garden makes a stunning backdrop for outdoor ceremonies, while the lobby offers a contemporary industrial-chic ambiance for chic receptions. Accommodating up to 200 guests for a cocktail reception or 125 for a banquet-style event, this room boasts plenty of space for loved ones to mingle. The garden and lobby are separated by glass doors, which can be opened in summer months to create a flawless flow between spaces.
The Mattress Factory Museum welcomes all ceremony types, including civil unions, religious and non-religious events. Dedicated staff will be available to assist you with any questions in the run-up to the event. When celebrating here, couples and their guests will be able to explore the current art exhibitions, providing a plethora of opportunities for one-of-a-kind wedding photos.

The museum itself is a beautiful space, the event contact, was very kind. Unfortunately, the overall experience left a lot to be desired, and I would encourage anyone considering t...
his venue to ask detailed questions about staffing, logistics, and weather contingencies before booking.
Communication and organization were the biggest challenges. Conversations often revisited the same information, setup timelines changed multiple times after vendors had already been contracted, and we had to advocate for earlier delivery access. While the museum staff and patrons were very respectful of the event setup, building an event from scratch while the museum remained open and fully operational was chaotic for those wanting to visit the museum as well as those setting up.
The couple’s floor plan, which had been submitted weeks in advance, also needed to be changed the week of the event after having ordered equipment for what we thought was approved. Cleanup and packing requirements were not communicated well, creating unnecessary last-minute stress. A day-of coordinator and her assistant were hired and the event could not have run as smoothly as it did without them. They were able to arrive when we needed them and they stayed until everything was cleaned up through midnight.
The venue contact was there from 3pm-midnight and we appreciated her being there for the full event. However, events of this scale need more on-site support (not hired from elsewhere) prior to 3pm when the cocktail hour begins at 5pm. The bathrooms were also dirty.
The tent is a helpful feature, but it does not have sides to provide additional protection from the elements. If the event needs to move indoors, I would be cautious about planning for more than 75 guests if you want to comfortably accommodate a dance floor.
Ultimately, this is a wonderful museum, but in my experience, the event operations did not meet the expectations required of a well-coordinated venue.
The people at the Mattress Factory are so good at hosting a wedding! Amanda was wonderful, so responsive, so thoughtful, and so accommodating. Our guests loved being able to visit ...
the museum during the cocktail hour and after dinner. It rained and was about 50 degrees out, but they have a tent set up, and everyone was comfortable. The venue is beautiful but not fussy and perfect for a couple who wants something interesting and special. Highly recommended!
I am SO SO happy with the Mattress Factory! My now husband and I unfortunately had to change our wedding venue only three months before the wedding date due to COVID (yikes!) and I...
'm so happy we found the Mattress Factory. Amanda (the venue coordinator) was literally a godsend during this incredibly stressful wedding planning process. She was super responsive, friendly, and open to all of our needs and requests.
Also--the Mattress Factory itself as a venue is absolutely beautiful, especially during the summer. Our ceremony was in the parking lot (which is blocked off for the entire day prior ensuring no cars will be there), and the reception was in the lobby and garden areas. The venue itself is surprisingly very neutral, but absolutely beautiful and you can add your own flair to it. My guests also loved being able to go explore the museum during the reception! I could not recommend this venue enough.
My husband (woo!) and I held our wedding reception at the Mattress Factory a few weeks ago. I can't say enough how helpful Amanda and the whole staff were throughout the entire pr...
ocess. They put up with my mom and I's crazy ideas and made the whole evening beautiful and stress-free. 100% recommend these awesome people!
We were so happy with the way our Mattress Factory wedding turned out! It is a city venue so it is not the typical wedding set up - the space is on the smaller side and parking is ...
a few blocks away, but none of that got in the way of an AWESOME wedding. You have a lot of control over the details here which is great. Amanda, the event planner, listened to our requests and made them happen - she was not the least bit pushy with how she thought things should be. She did offer advice when necessary, which was a good thing, and made sure all went smoothly on the day of. A big plus is that you are free to use a caterer of your choice and bring your own alcohol. Guests were able to go though the galleries, which was so much fun! This is a unique and somewhat quirky venue, so if that is your style I would highly recommend it.
