I’m Karl, the photographer and filmmaker behind Karl Lascano Photo & Film. After more than a decade photographing weddings and portraits in Los Angeles, I brought my passion for photography and filmmaking to Michigan. I’m now based in Ann Arbor, serving Detroit, Southeast Michigan, and beyond.
My approach is simple: I’ll help you look your absolute best while making sure you still look and feel like yourselves.
Not everyone feels comfortable in front of a camera, and that’s perfectly fine. You don’t have to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. I’ll guide you through it, help you find your best angles, and make the whole experience feel natural. I love creating those beautiful, magazine-worthy portraits, but I care just as much about the moments nobody planned.
Your dad seeing you in your dress for the first time. Your partner’s expression when you walk down the aisle. That one friend who completely loses it on the dance floor.
Those are the moments I watch for. And knowing when to step in and when to simply let things happen is something I’ve learned through years of experience.

I take the time to understand what’s important to you, help with your photography timeline, and make sure you feel comfortable and taken care of throughout the process. Every delivered image receives careful editing and color grading, with a timeless, cinematic style that you’ll still love years from now.
And you won’t have to spend months wondering when you’ll see everything. My turnaround time is two weeks or less for wedding photos and four weeks or less for wedding films.

Finding Karl completely changed the experience for us. From the first conversation, he was calm, clear, and upfront about everything, which is exactly what we needed. He walked us through the process, answered our questions without making us feel rushed, and gave us confidence that our wedding memories were in good hands.
On the wedding day, he was organized, steady, and easy to be around. We didn’t feel like we had to perform for the camera. He gave direction when we needed it, stepped back when the moment called for it, and captured things we didn’t even realize were happening.
When we received the photos and video, we felt relieved all over again, but in the best way. The work was beautiful, emotional, and looked super elegant. After everything we went through, having someone dependable and talented meant more than we can explain. Karl didn’t just give us pictures and videos. He gave us peace of mind when we really needed it the most. We got the pictures just 2 weeks after the wedding and we even got to look at them while on our honeymoon which was amazing. Sipping mai tais at the beach and looking at the wedding catalog during sunset was a great experience. It's like we planned a date night out of it.

ms online, on different platforms, including wedding ones like here but when I met Karl, that all went away. I did my due diligence of course and read reviews and looked at a dozen of his galleries and finally decided to drive down Ann Arbor and meet him. We had 200+ guests, had a tight timeline, and family coming in from everywhere and were worried how it will all flow on the day of. We expected absolute chaos. Instead, Karl explained how it can all be managed and suggested things to ask of our coordinator and dj. He pretty much dictated the whole day and while it wasn’t his job, he got our wild wedding party to stick to the timeline and also had fun with the photos and videos at the same time.
When the gallery and highlight reel dropped, our jaws hit the floor. Seriously, I thought it wasn’t me who was in those pictures. I looked so regal and yet so natural like my skin had a bath in milk and all my hair and make up never had a flaw from start to finish. It’s hard to explain but there’s this weird but amazingly good feeling looking at how I glowed in those pictures.
I am just so thankful that he helped me overcome my fear and convinced us that it will all be close to our vision when we see our pictures and videos. The truth is it exceed the vision as I’ve never looked good like this before.
Call him, meet with him, ask other brides that he helped in the past, and one thing you will agree with me on is that he gives you this sense of calm and confidence at the same time. If we were to celebrate a 10 year anniversary down the road and make a thing of it, make no mistake that we will only have him to cover that event for us.

I knew I wanted engagement photos to come with a wedding package. I wanted them to look classy, ...
nothing flashy but definitely something that feels organic and looks beautiful, but I didn’t realize how important the actual experience is as when you’re nervous and feeling awkward, how can you get those pictures to look sweet, right? Karl made that part so easy. He gave us direction when we needed it, but also let us just be ourselves, and I think that’s what made Mikey and I feel so comfortable during our engagement session.
I cried when I saw our pictures. I really didn’t consider myself beautiful before I saw those photos. I had a good selfie here and there in the last 5 years but nothing artistic and certainly nothing that looked like it could be placed on a mantle or even a big space on a wall. Our pictures (and there were a ton of them for a 2 hour shoot) looked absolutely like they could be featured in a vintage magazine.
We are even more excited for our wedding now and so grateful we found Karl. He is as advertised! Google reviews don’t do enough to describe how well he takes care of you, how fast he gets the pictures delivered to you, and how he surprises you with quality that you thought wouldn’t be possible.

anized, responsive, and so easy to talk to that any nerves I had about being in front of a camera basically disappeared. He has this way of making everything feel natural and relaxed without you even realizing he's directing you.
We did our engagement shoot downtown Detroit, and I was a little nervous about not knowing how to pose and how to look at the camera. He helped with all of that. He also found the most beautiful spots around the Guardian Building and we walked through the streets during golden hour, and the shots were stunning. Like, framed-on-our-wall stunning.
For the wedding at The Whitney, he was just everywhere he needed to be without ever being in the way. For those who have been in this restaurant, the place is so dark! Karl didn’t have a problem navigating that as the pictures showed the beauty of the place without them looking super dark.
When our gallery came in, I cried. He captured so many moments I didn't even know happened and everything just looked like we spent a ton of money getting those pictures and yet that wasn’t our experience. They just look classy and polished and the texture looks prestigious. It’s difficult to explain fully but really really good.

First off, Karl’s vibes are immaculate. He showed up to our venue with this chill energy but was so on top of everything. He will even help you organize. He made us feel super comfy during the couple shots, even when we were low-key awkward trying to pose. He was like, “Just vibe with each other,” or he'd make us do some cute stuff like whisper thoughts to each other and somehow got these candid, dreamy pics that look straight out of a Pinterest board. My friends keep saying our photos look like they belong in a rom-com, and I’m not mad about it.
The video? Stop. It’s like he bottled up the entire day and made it feel like a movie we wanna rewatch forever. He caught all the little moments like the way my partner looked at me during the vows, my mom tearing up, and even my chaotic cousins killing it on the dance floor. He used these elegant and simple transitions that I thought complimented the feel of the highlight film.
Turnaround time was quick too, like, we had our photo gallery in a couple of weeks and the video within a month and the quality? Unreal. Every shot was crisp, the colors were poppin’, and it all felt so us. My Insta stories have been eating since we posted the highlights, lol. Seriously, I've gotten so many compliments about how luxurious looking our images looked.

r and very young children who attended our wedding. He maximized every great area you can find at the Pine Knob Mansion and the pictures turned out to be crisp, vibrant and full of emotion. There is this uncanny vintage texture that you can feel and yet our images definitely look like they are shot from this century and not from old muddy film. Our highlight video was so beautifully done with all the drone transitions and moving scenes of me and my hubby. There were even shots that we didn't know that we actually did during the wedding. It was just a very tasteful interpretation with a solid soundtrack that he used. For those thinking if this could be done by just another artist, maybe. However, our experience with him is just so good that we wouldn't have it any other way if we were to do this again. Maybe we'll get him again for our 25th anniversary that we are looking forward to already.

sed our vision for the big day. He took the time to understand our story, making notes about our preferences and the details that mattered most to us. He spent an hour with us and the whole meeting didn't feel like a sales pitch like what we've experienced from others. He even ended the meeting by saying that we should think it over and be sure with our decision. We actually reached out immediately the day after as we panicked thinking that someone might get our date. This was almost a year ago.
For the months leading to our wedding (Sept) Karl remained in close contact, checking in on the progress of our preparations and offering ideas for locations of the bridal portraits. He even provided helpful tips on our timeline. He responded very quickly to our messages which really helped eased our mind a lot.
On the wedding day itself, he was just so helpful. Everyone there was really enjoying his company. You'd know when you meet him as he is just a very likable guy. He actually helped me stay calm when I stressed about the logistics of things. He kept reminding me that everything is going to be ok and that I should enjoy the experience versus worrying about the details and the timeline and all the things that are not happening as they should. Even my husband said that it was a blessing that he was there as sure he was our photographer, but he also became like a counselor. Long story short here was that I couldn't have lasted that day without him guiding us and he did all these at the same time as he took our pictures. All those hundreds of shots he took both posed and candid seemed to have flowed very smoothly that speaks to his experience and professionalism.
Now, let's talk about the photos! When we received the gallery less than 2 weeks later, we were absolutely blown away. He really captured the essence of our wedding and he edited it with the look that we wanted ( he'll ask you this during your first meeting so be specific, show him examples). My parents who are not easily impressed by anything were so impressed they asked me if I paid over 10k for the photos. They were even more surprised when we said we didn't even pay half of that which is one of the most amazing things about the whole thing.

The aesthetic of his pictures are just too dreamy. It’s like it has a fine-art approach with a touch of editorial vibes. Lyk those you see from a commercial of a perfume or something. So cinematic and feels very expensive looking I guess. Go check his website and you'll understand. Also check out the portraits section if you want a boudoir sesh or something.
One of my favorite shots was during our first dance. Karl caught the exact moment when we twirled under the fairy lights, and it looked like something straight out of a fairytale. It was the focal point of our wedding album.
Another standout was when he captured us sneaking a sweet kiss during the reception when everyone was busy eating. It was so candid and genuine—totally caught us in the moment, and it’s one of the most beloved photos from the day.
You'll forget sometimes that there's a photographer watching you, which we really appreciated as we weren’t use to have our pictures taken and we dreaded the thought of getting a photographer for our wedding. If you want a photographer who will get your vibe and will deliver unforgettable shots, Karl is your guy. ngs that we remembered during our wedding that stuck. We knew we got some good shots but to get almost 500 of them blew our mind. These can’t be replicated by someone using their Iphones or an uncle who moonlights as a photographer. These edits took years to master, we think and it really showed in our album. All I can say is that I’m so glad I didn’t give in to the temptation to pick the cheapest photographer we could find. It’s like buying art or a nice car, you get what you pay for but in our case, it was way more than that because we realized you can always buy a new car or art now and in the future but can never bring back time to one of the most important events in our lives. If you’ve invested a lot in your wedding, all the money spent on dresses, venues, decorations, etc, then don’t make the mistake of picking the photographer last. Include it in your budget and should be one of the first, if not the first things, you should consider. He almost shot non-stop as well as he seemed to have captured very candid shots that we didn’t even remember happened. Going back I would have paid him more if I knew the value of what I was getting. During our initial meeting with Karl, we discovered that he already shot in our chosen venue and already had a clear vision of what good angles to take during the ceremony. He took time knowing us in our meet and greet, how we started and how Karl proposed. On the drive home, I told my boyfriend that I felt like Karl instantly became a friend and he agreed. A week before the wedding, Karl gave called a quick call just to check in and review our final itinerary. I love how he treated us in a professional way yet remarkably endearing. He’s so organized and responds to all your question no matter how basic they are or however many times you’ve asked them already. Lol. He even took the time to learn about our family members and closest friends so that he could personally acknowledge them by name on the day of the event and to take more shots of them so they can be seen more in the final pictures and videos. It's these small details that set Karl apart from other photographers and videographers. That connection he established helped us feel at ease in front of the camera, and his positive and very kind personality kept us smiling throughout the entire evening. Many of our relatives even took the time to express their admiration for their experience with him and his team during the wedding. We can’t recommend Karl and his team enough, The pictures of our wedding were absolutely breathtaking. Certainly the most liked post in our social media! Our wedding film was exactly as we wanted to be, it was dreamy and filled with candid and dramatic moments throughout the entire event. We will always cherish the service he provided us. He made us feel so special and our wedding day wouldn’t be as memorable if not for Karl being there for us.
