Kara Cavalca Photo + Video

t of the camera and gives you a lot of options/ideas for poses and even locations. If I lived closer, I would request her for all our photography needs! So glad she could capture our wedding!

h and feel at ease in front of the camera. Her talent for capturing perfect moments left us in awe of the stunning results. I highly recommend Kara and look forward to working with her again in the future.

anized, and communicative person. If I could choose again, I’d still choose her! Longer review: I’ll start at the beginning of the process when I first booked Kara. Between meeting over zoom and emailing and the questionnaire she gave me, I could tell this is a very organized professional, which is exactly the vibe I wanted for our wedding photographer and videographer. She had great insights to all of my questions and gave me amazing advice for the wedding, beyond even just the photography aspect. She made me feel so at ease and sure she had the photography and videography covered. When my husband and I first met her for our engagement shoot, she was so sweet and kind. She’s funny and down to earth and makes you feel so relaxed. The shoot felt like your best friend taking pictures for you, honestly. During the wedding she was her organized, kind self— even in the more hectic moments of the day she (and her whole team) was hyping us up and made us feel great in front of the camera. I had a ton (seriously, dozens) of specific photos I wanted Kara to get on the day, and she made sure we got them all! We purchased 6 hours of photo coverage, but, by no fault of Kara, we were running behind on the day. (I highly recommend getting 8hrs of coverage) We were able to book an extra hour with Kara and her team on the spot, no problem. They stayed so we could get all the photos we wanted. The NEXT day, Kara sent us preview photos. They’re not even the official edits, but I am OBSESSED with them. I love them so much. The light is stunning, the composition elegant and beautiful. She captured the pure joy we were feeling that day and I am so so grateful. If you’re on the fence about getting videography as well, I’ll tell you this: ALL of my married friends told me they regret not having video coverage of their wedding. My sister in law has a daughter now and I know she wishes she could show her daughter a video of their wedding vows. Budgets are a thing, believe me I get it, but if it’s within your budget, I’d say go for it! Bottom line: Kara is a world class wedding photographer and videographer, and I highly recommend you hire her!

htful, and funny human being. She continuously went above and beyond to make sure that she captured everything we wanted, to answer random wedding questions, and to ensure we didn’t miss a detail of all the important parts of the day. Kara is incredibly knowledgeable about everything you could need to know about planning for a wedding and is a supportive presence to have through the process and with identifying what you want for photos. She made us feel comfortable with taking pictures (something we both felt super nervous about), made the process of taking pictures fun and engaging, and she managed to genuinely capture all the love and joy of our moments together. She truly cares about her work and making sure that people have a joyous and meaningful experience, which shines through in the beautiful photos that she works so hard on. We would recommend Kara to anyone looking for amazing photography and an authentic and fun experience with their wedding photos!

what images were important to us. Day of she was also extremely helpful in trying to wrangle our large wedding party/family and was still able to get all of the important images we wanted. Kara is a lovely human, creative, passionate and FUN. We loved having her be a part of our special day!

s most important to us to ensure we weren't forgetting any special moments. She is so talented, and I feel like her photography speaks for itself but what really sets Kara apart is her kind and warm personality. She put us completely at ease both with our engagement shoot and on our wedding day. She expressed how important it is to her that our photos match us as a couple and what we were wanting. She never made us take a photo or pose in a certain way if it didn't feel authentic to us. During the wedding she was extremely organized to capture the more posed photos quickly so that we could enjoy the rest of our big day. She captured such beautiful moments without feeling like we constantly had a camera in our face. What stood out the most to us was how she went above and beyond. We had to make some last minute schedule shifts the day before and she was so flexible when we asked her to arrive earlier so we could still capture getting ready moments with still getting to the Church when needed. Although she showed up earlier she stayed to the time we had initially agreed to, extending the time we had her for with no questions asked. This was so generous and showed us just how much she cared about capturing all the special moments of our day. She even surprised us during the reception with a framed photo that she had taken earlier in the day, it was such a special touch. After the wedding she stayed in great communication, providing us with sneak peeks the next day and smaller gallery shortly there after. We are so thankful that we got to work with Kara!

Completely at-ease. Her ability to draw out the emotions that are to be portrayed in her photos is top notch. She is caring and careful to make sure the story told through photos is represented in an accurate and profound way. I couldn’t recommend her enough! I would also add I am a Covid-19 bride and Kara did anything and everything in her power to make sure I had the elopement photos of my dreams even though plans changed drastically multiple times. Thank you Kara for making my elopement so special! Update: We eloped in 2020 due to COVID which Kara shot. We were finally able to have the actual ceremony and reception of our dreams on Labor Day weekend 2023 and of course, Kara shot this as well! I’m still in awe of her talent and the shots she manages to get while going completely unnoticed! Thank you for another wonderful event together Kara!

ra stuck by all the changes with no complaints. She makes you feel so comfortable behind her lens and you can tell she truly cares. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone!!!!

o her she has been so great to us. Before, we even committed to her being our photographer she spent over an hour with us on zoom getting to know us and letting us know about her. I thought this was the best thing ever. On the wedding day kara was the key to our wedding being so perfect. I had full confidence she was capturing everything we had asked for and more. The pictures we have received from her so far are absolutely breath taking. She even captured details and moments I would have never even thought of asking her for. Because of the phenomenal job Kara did we will forever be able to live our big day over and over again. We will forever be grateful and thankful for Kara!

quick to throw a contract at me. Never once did I feel pressured about booking my date with her or feel uncomfortable at any point! Kara was a big help to me with details for the day of. She has the questions and recommendations for things a bride can easily forget. Time got the best of me and I definitely appreciate that she took the time to ask questions and find out the details that were unique to us and what we wanted captured. I honestly have nothing but great things to say about Kara! She was an absolute pleasure to work with before, day of and after! She’s professional, friendly, caring, knowledgeable, talented, thoughtful, are just a few words that instantly come to mind! Wedding Day it was like a having a friend show up to photograph us. Our family and friends were all impressed with Kara’s kindness! We already knew she is amazing! Can I mention I went to a wedding recently where the photographer was kinda mean. Never once did Kara yell or round up our guests like cattle. She spoke to everyone kindly and professionally! Much love girl you made me realize how truly lucky I was to have YOU capture my special day! I’m seriously tearing up writing this! 🥹 When I first saw my images I can’t stress enough how IMPRESSED I was and how she DELIVERED!! I show off my photos any chance I get 🙌🏽 I have the best engagement and wedding photos 😍. I am so in love with them and I will cherish them for years to come! If you’re feeling “on the fence” about booking with Kara. She is worth every penny! The only regret I have is not having her stay the whole night but out of all our vendors I recommend her highly and FIRST. I would book her again immediately for any photos we will want down the road!

r for our wedding, what stood out the most about Kara during our conversation was that she consistently mentioned how capturing who we are, with a focus on candid moments, smiles, little conversations in the corners, and the special moments that not everyone sees, was what she looked for and hoped to capture in her photos. It was about less staged moments and more genuine ones. We loved this about her! And the results of our engagement session and our wedding day reflect this beautifly. She captured moments that we didn't even know she was around for - she just floats, working her magic and sharing her craft with the world. Both our engagement and wedding day pictures came out stunning! The joy of the day is so clear in each one and looking at them gives us the chance to relive the day over and over again, which is exactly what she said she'd hoped to do. If you are looking to find a photographer to capture the feelings and the emotions of your special day in pictures, then I'd wholeheartedly recommend Kara. She is professional and so communicative through the whole process. She takes time to really get to know you and your partner. I told her often that she's just magical and she truly is. She's a gem of a human being and we are so incredibly grateful that she picked us and we have the opportunity to have the beautiful pictures that she took hanging in our home and a video that we can play over and over to remind us of our special day.

eing 8 months pregnant!! I honestly do not know how you do what you do. You not only captured the best day of our lives, but you made all of our pictures feel like us and unique to our relationship. We are not picture takers and we were nervous about looking awkward in photos. You know exactly how to coach your couples on different poses AND capture candid moments that mean so much to us. Reliving our day through your work has brought back every emotion we had that day and we will cherish these memories for the rest of our lives. Thank you so SO much for everything you did for us.

get and you wouldn't even know she is there- allowing everyone to just be their natural self. She is also a master at creating intimate moments, for example having your mom help you into your wedding dress, or a first look- Giving you some structure on what to do, but making the moment feel so natural. There was a point in our wedding planning process that we were considering not having a wedding photographer. Mostly because the weddings we had been to in the past felt like a bit of a photo shoot with the bride and groom gone for large chunks of time. However, after talking with Kara we changed our minds completely. Kara took the time to walk us through the entire wedding day and brainstorm different times and ways to get all the photos we wanted while also never taking us away from the natural flow of our wedding day. Looking back on the day I can say that Kara only exceeded our expectations- and we had done shoots with her before. For all the emotional and intense moments she got the most beautiful photos, and I don't remember seeing her once; allowing us to be fully in the moment. For the family photos she masterfully hearded various family groupings into order. And for the special moments that really did need a few "staged" shots she gave us space to have the moment, then gave clear and fun posing suggestions, so we never felt like we were doing photo shoot. Kara, I am so thankful we had YOU to capture our wedding day.

hole process feel customized to us. I (the groom) am not usually a fan of taking pictures but she managed to have both of us laughing and smiling throughout both our engagement shoot and the day of the wedding. My wife wanted to have the whole day and wedding feel like a fairytale and Kara was able to take candid photos that came through exactly that way. Not only were we in awe of how incredible her pictures were, but both of our families were amazed with them as well. We would recommend Kara in a heartbeat to anyone and we were so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her.

all the shots though!!! I don’t know how she got half the shots she did because we didn’t even notice her. Kara also worked incredibly well with our photographer which was crucial to our big day going smoothly. She was really helpful with telling us what to do in a way that was fun and natural. I’ve seen the sneak peek and cannot wait to see the full video. She made sure to incorporate shots that were important to us (nature, decor, etc.). She’s thorough, thoughtful, super talented, and has a great eye. Would 100% recommend!

was great to work with and offers the perfect balance of making sure you get the shots you want and the spontaneous moments. I can only imagine group wedding party photos can feel like herding cats sometimes but for Kara, it was effortless. She was super professional, friendly, and easy going.

while it was 45-50 degrees outside so she could get the perfect angle. She goes above and beyond, and the pictures are STUNNING!!! I couldn’t be happier that we chose Kara to capture our special day. I truly can’t think of anything that she could have improved on because it all went so smoothly. 10/10 recommend this wonderful woman!!

e at was so helpful. I told her what my vision was and she was able to execute and bring her creativity to the table. The day of she was so calming and made me feel so at ease with the whole day. She made it so fun! A couple days after the wedding she sent some sneak peak photos and they are amazing! I can’t wait to see the video! Durango is a small town so it is hard to find a reputable videographer so book her ASAP! She won’t disappoint!

deep details about the vision for our wedding and who we are as a couple and a family. This was a second wedding for both of us and she was very sensitive to the fact that it was a blended family. Yet no personal details fazed her! She was super organized about her shot list to make sure she didn't forget any important images we knew we wanted. To be honest, I didn't think a whole lot about our photos in advance because I was so busy planning and working a full time job that I didn't have the time to be super picky or detailed. But Kara got so many great shots that it took our breath away. At one point during the ceremony I threw her a curve ball and asked her to take an unplanned photo of my new stepchildren and she was wonderful about it! Like no big deal! After the wedding her email and text communications were wonderful and clear. So appreciated! We were honestly blown away by the first images! In fact, she printed one out at the reception and put it in a frame! DAMN now that's service! We are having a tough time deciding on our favorites there are SO many! In our opinion Kara is the one and only choice for weddings photos in Southwest Colorado. I have seen much of her work before and after and I would find it hard to pick someone else. She is easygoing, fun and made us feel so comfortable with her images and work. We are so happy with the results -- we only wish now we would have also gotten video to go with the images!

couple. Kara and I didn't meet in-person until the day of the wedding, but it immediately felt like I had known her forever! She was personable, warm and a clear master of her craft. I tend to get very awkward about having my photo taken / being filmed and Kara made everything feel natural and effortless :).

oing, and competent photographer I have ever been photographed by. And her finished photos are INCREDIBLE. She was able to wrangle my giant family at our wedding in order to capture the obligatory family photos and she even had a hilarious frog noise to make our little nieces laugh long enough to snap the photos. She got me a sneak peak of over 100 photos within days and I had my full gallery in less than a month. To say we are happy with Kara would be an understatement. If you are on the fence about a photographer for any photography needs of any kind, HIRE HER. Thank you, Kara!

de our day stress free and perfect. She truly went above and beyond. Her vendor list and referrals are excellent. She’s so creative and captures the best moments. I highly recommend her!

ver. Kara is very creative and had great ideas that created amazing photos that we could not be happier. She also worked efficiently getting all our family pictures we wanted and sent our first sneak peak just a couple days after our wedding. I highly recommend using Kara for any sort of photography that you may need.

ed in your wedding. She works quickly and efficiently, getting our sneak peek preview gallery ready in just days! I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting engagement or wedding photos.

e, I just wanted her to be creative with our photos and she did not disappoint. I feel like I am re living the day when I look through the photos. I am so grateful for Kara!!!!!

s.

ich we will now be able to remember forever with the most remarkable pictures that we have EVER had taken.”

mate pictures of the wedding and fun, energetic and charming pictures of people at the reception. I love the photos and have them framed in the house and at my desk at work. She captured the moment my dad met me to walk down the aisle and our reaction as well as my mother and before getting into my dress. I really love those photos. I highly recommend this photographer!
