Jumpstart is an amazing band. We hired them to play for our Fourth of July Festival (Freedom Fiesta), and they were a smash hit. Very professional, with quality musicians. They put...
on a great show! I highly recommend them for your next event.
Awesome band!
Although this band most often performs for wedding receptions, my nephew & I hired them for a joint 60th & 40th birthday party with approximately 300 guests in March...
2020. From the beginning, Mike was incredibly easy with which to work & also worked with us as far as certain song requests we had for that night. The entire band was phenomenal & played a great variety of music! They did a fine job of keeping everyone engaged & on the dance floor! We received several compliments about the band over the course of the evening & even after the party. I would highly recommend them for your upcoming event!
What a night! From our first dance, to a surprise song as part of the welcome by my mom, to the music that got people on the dance floor all night long - everything was perfect. Mi...
ke, the band contact is so responsive and incredibly accommodating. And the singers and band members, WOW! We had three semi-obscure songs we wanted for some of our "special" dances and they absolutely did them perfectly (honestly maybe even better than the original artists! :))
A lot of reviews have said it, but they truly know how to read the crowd and get people on the dance floor. We had a mix of family and friends from 2 - 92 years old and had plenty of them dancing. And, we're still hearing from them how much fun they all had!
You will not be disappointed with Jumpstart!
Jumpstart is a MUST HIRE if you want great dancing at your reception, they're available, and they're within budget. If you read nothing else from this review, then please walk away...
with that one thing.
My wife and I initially planned on hiring a DJ for the reception but after learning that Jumpstart was available, we became absolutely torn between us spending less on our wedding and having a band that she had seen play live before and loved. We eventually decided to take a leap of faith and booked the band.
One would think that paying for your wedding would mean fewer cooks in the kitchen for an already stressful process, but hiring a band surfaced all kinds of reactions and opinions from our friends and family. We were told things like: a DJ would have been just as good and way cheaper; If the band is even just okay, you're wasting a lot of money; didn't ___ and __ have a band at their wedding? I don't remember anything about them; I wouldn't have hired a band.
We had plenty of self-doubt ourselves from the time we put in our deposit until the wedding. Nevertheless, we stuck with our guns.
Mike, the band leader, was super responsive and accommodating throughout the whole process. You fill out a questionnaire about what time everything is happening, what the special songs are, etc. They'll even learn a few songs for you to make your night extra special. The best part of the process itself though was how accommodating Mike was to us and the chaos of the final couple of months before the big day:
* We picked two songs for the band to learn for the first dance and the father-daughter dance.
* A couple of weeks later, we asked about a mashup of two songs and Mike ended up mixing it for us.
* Mike realized that we didn't pick a grand entrance song and made a great suggestion for us to walk in to.
Then came the big day itself and Jumpstart sounded AMAZING. The dance floor was PACKED with people of all ages. And the most shocking thing to me: MY FAMILY DANCED. Including parents that normally sit throughout wedding receptions.
Friends and family have said the following:
* "This is the best reception I've ever been to."
* "Everything was great so I'm only going to call out three decisions that were great: the venue, the food, and the band."
* "The band was worth every penny." (A family member who previously thought we were spending too much on the music)
* "The band was very good!" (The first thing one of my uncles said to me when we saw family the next day)
* "Venue: 10; Wedding: 10; Band: 10; Food: 10; A top notch classy wedding"
After we came back from the honeymoon, my wife's parents were still glowing over the memory of the wedding. They even asked when Jumpstart was playing next so they could drive down all the way from Fort Worth to Austin just to see them!
Our experience with Jump Start was incredible! We loved them so much at our wedding and working with them before-hand was a breeze!
We began working with Mike (main contact) nearl...
y 10 months out form the wedding date. He is very good with communication, and their wedding questionnaire covers just about anything you can think of. Mike made sure to check in at various points after the initial conversation and as we neared the wedding. About a month out, he was pro-active in reaching out to us for final conversations and details. Our venue didn’t have their exact power requirements, but they made it work with no added stress to us.
Their actual performance was so great. They did an instrumental “cocktail set” between the ceremony and reception, which was nice to have for the guests. Their man set was incredible! All our guests couldn’t stop talking about how great the band was. They were fun, played a good mix of songs based on our requests, and had just the right amount of crowd interaction. The bride and bridesmaids were all pulled on stage for a rendition of “Rolling on the River”, which was awesome. We had a friend of ours go on stage with them to sing “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” which was also a hit. If you’re debating between a DJ and a live band and have room in your budget, you HAVE to go with the live band – it takes it to a completely different level.
They were also willing to help us out last minute regarding the sound/PA for our ceremony. They handled the start/stop of the ceremony music and did so without a hitch.
Highly highly recommend!!
A big thank you to JUMPSTART Band & Mike Murillo for the wonderful entertainment during our wedding, and his superb communication and personalized coordination throughout planning....
Everyone raved about the music and how much fun they had with the band!
Choosing a band far in advance from your wedding date can be a daunting task, considering how far out vendors need to be booked these days! Mike was the most professional and laid back POC for every music vendor I spoke with, ultimately leading to my decision to go with JUMPSTART. They provided a tailored timeline for my wedding day schedule, ultimately shifting around their band brakes during dinner to ensure a long-lasting dancing set throughout the evening. The cocktail set in the later afternoon was perfect. Our guests have not stopped commenting on how much fun it was.
The band is a traditional and gigantic ensemble of talented musicians who play a great range of 50's-today's music. If you want a band at your wedding that can touch on all kinds of dancing music, and not only cover Bruno Mars or other Top 40 songs, go with JUMPSTART!
Jumpstart was great to work with. They were very accommodating to not quite having a ton of space for a stage and played on the dance floor. They learned three songs and we loved t...
heir version of our wedding song. Mike is extremely easy to work with and we got multiple comments on how entertaining and talented the band was. Definitely the perfect entertainment to a great day. Would definitely recommend
Booking Jumpstart was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. They kept our dance floor packed from their first song to their last song. They were energetic, and they ...
played a huge mix of music, pleasing every age group at our wedding. They are so, so talented, and I would definitely book them again for any party going forward. Their music put a smile on EVERY guest's face, even on those who were unable to dance. They really, really completed our night. They went above and beyond accommodating our special requests-- they learned the exact version of our first dance song that we wanted, they let us make a playlist of music to be played during the band breaks, and they led us out in our exit in a New Orleans second line played by their horn section. We really, really, really loved them, and booking them will be the BEST decision of your wedding. They are so talented and are so kind!!!!!!!!!
Jumpstart was awesome! We had several comments about how great the band was, and I know that personally I couldn't stay off the dance floor. :) They were so accommodating about w...
hat songs to play at what time and made sure to check in with me the week leading up the the wedding, which was very appreciated. I would definitely recommend them!!
Mike and his band were so great to work with. He arranged a special play list for our wedding and even tweaked the words to the father/daughter dance which made it super special. ...
The dance floor was rocking the entire time. It was in an historic chapel and he and his band were super careful to follow all the rules that go along with such an event. They dressed very professionally and they were incredible. If I had to do it over again, I would pick Jumpstart.

ng. These guys did not disappoint! They were super high energy, sounded amazing and really engaged with the crowd! Guests had the best time and were all a little sore from dancing the next morning! On top of putting on an incredible show, Jumpstart was professional and easy to work with from the word go. Mike Murillo was wonderful and easy to communicate with. We could not have been happier with our choice to hire these guys. We'd hire them again in an instant!
The band was great. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. All we wanted was for our guests to have a good time and they definitely did. Everyone was dancing.
Everyone was on the dance floor and singing a long! Great song choices and Mike is super easy and pleasurable to work with! It was a night we will never forget
Mike performed for my daughters wedding last weekend. Everything was perfect and the music was great. Mike gave us plenty of options to choose from and was even willing to learn a ...
few songs that were important to us. There was never a gripe, he was always available and eager to please. Parents need a lot of hand holding during a wedding and Mike was very gracious and understanding. The only thing people really remember about a wedding is the music and we are still getting compliments. Mike did an acoustic set outdoors for a cocktail hour and then moved to the big stage for the dancing and partying. I also thought his price was very fair. He has my highest recommendation.

id. Everyone at our wedding had such a blast!! I saw people dancing who I’ve never seen dance at previous weddings! The band did an excellent job at reading the crowd and playing all the best songs to keep everyone on the dancefloor. We had about 175 people in attendance, and I was so surprised every time I looked around and realized hardly anyone was sitting down! People were telling me how sore they were for days after the wedding because of how much they danced (haha!). I would highly recommend Jumpstart as your wedding band. If you're looking for some entertainment to keep your guests dancing and having fun, this is your band!
I got the opportunity to work with Jumpstart at my last wedding and they were just fantastic!! It was so easy to communicate with their band leader Mike before the event and then ...
the whole band was so easy to work with during it.
The band kept the party going the whole night and did fantastic job making sure everyone was dancing and having fun.
I can not wait to work with them again in the future.
Amazing!! We had over 200 people at our wedding and I got asked by everyone where we found the band at because they were so good! The dance floor was never empty!! They made sure t...
o learn all of the songs we requested and played eveything from motown, to rock, to country. They were affordable and reliable. If your looking for an amazing band with horns and good entertainment then you need to book Jumpstart!!

song to play during our cake cutting which was so much fun. They are very talented and had the dance floor PACKED the entire night!! The band went above and beyond for us! Mike was so wonderful to work with: calm, nice, helpful, accommodating. We had the jazz portion of the band lead us in and out of the ballroom New Orleans style which was a huge hit! The pianist also played for us during the cocktail hour. Overall, I could not have been happier with the performance. We are grateful to Jumpstart for helping make our wedding so fun!
An Unforgettable Evening with The Band that Rocked the House
What an Excellent choice we made in selecting Jumpstart as our Band for the 400 guest wedding reception we hosted for ...
our daughter and son-in-law at The Four Seasons Hotel Austin! This was our Second experience hiring Jumpstart and just like our first they simply brought the house down with their High Energy and Wide Range of music! What a memorable Night; it was full of surprise and excitement from the introduction of the bride and groom whom were escorted in by the horn section of the band to an amazing jazz ensemble right into their 1st dance to, “Nothing can change this Love” by Sam Cook, to our request of, “ Hava Nagila” and numerous other electrifying songs motivating and packing the dance floor to its capacity until the very Last dance, “Your Song” by Elton John ! And then their horn section played as they escorted the newlyweds out of the ballroom to their get away car! At the end of the evening we were simply left with wanting more!!!! During dinner they played a light set so everyone could enjoy their meal, it was perfect! And Last minute my daughter and son in law requested that the Texas Fight Song be played before she cut her cake and Ole Miss Dixie Song be played before he cut his cake and they happily learned the Ole Miss Dixie song quickly and nailed it! From the start Mike Murillo the band leader worked closely with us! We met several times with Mike per our request and he worked with my husband on a choreographed exchange during my husbands welcome speech ( 5 legal pages ,hand written long!!) I cannot say enough about the Enormous part Mike Murillo and his band Jumpstart played in the success of our celebration of the newlywed couple! It was an Unforgettable Evening full of love, laughter and dancing alongside the Band That Rocked The House! We love you Jumpstart and so did ALL our Guest !

floor and didn't want to sit down. The music mix was excellent and very lively. The vocals were absolutely amazing and the atmosphere created by the interaction of the band members with the guests was really fun and inviting. I had at least 10 guests tell me how much they loved the band and ask me where I had found them and how much they cost to hire. I even had one client tell me he liked them so much, he was planning to hire them for his daughter's wedding in 2015. I would definitely recommend JUMPSTART to anyone who wants an a very "tight" high energy band with a great mix of music and tremendous vocals. They really are a band for all ages. You will never want to leave the dance floor! K.MacDonald

some friends and family go see them at the Oasis in Austin to get an opinion…and they loved them! They were very professional and easy to work with. They learned a song for our first dance and played it to perfection. They were such a crowd pleaser and we would book them again in a heartbeat. Thank you Jumpstart for an amazing night that we will never forget!

were extremely friendly, accommodating and affordable. I definitely recommend choosing them for your band. Throughout the night the guests couldn't stop talking about how fabulous and entertaining they were! Thanks for helping to making our wedding special!
Mike was great to work with, he kept calling as I was deciding. His persistence that Jumpstart was a major dance band was the main reason I chose them over the many others. I was d...
isappointed in the quality of the music overall, the band seemed a bit unorganized overall. There were long awkward pauses between songs. My friends and family love to dance, and once the music got a bit better, people danced. I am not bashing them overall. It was not ideal for them, it was a cold evening and even with heaters, they were cold. I just wished he had not sold it as such a dance band. And people did dance, the music just did not sound as great as I wanted it too. If I could do it again, I would have either chosen a different band OR given them a set list with all the music I wanted. I wish I could review it higher.
These guys were awesome. We wanted to mix the party music with our love of country and they did it. Great energy and amazing vocals made for a full dance floor all night! Their pri...
ce is worth every penny and was much lower than many bands I found. I would not change my choice for anything, they were wonderful!!
Jumpstart was great! My family and friends danced the whole night!
Jumpstart really made the party happen at our wedding. They knew how to read the crowd and play songs that would keep them moving. All of our guests could not say enough about how ...
amazing the band was. They even learned a song for us for our "first dance", and it sounded AWESOME! Mike, the contact, was easy to work with and has so much experience playing at weddings and similar events, he was able to steer us in the right direction from the beginning to end. The entire band was very professional and you could tell they were well rounded musicians. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great variety band in the Austin area. Thanks again Jumpstart for helping us celebrate our special day and for personalizing everything to fit exactly like we wanted it!
Jumpstart did a sensational job at entertaining our guests during our wedding reception. They are a very talented group of musicians and I’m very glad that we chose them. I must ...
admit that I was a bit nervous before the wedding about how they'd sound since I hadn't heard them live and only had their website samples to go by. But, the day of the wedding, all of our guests were blown away. Mike was very professional and worked with accommodating our song selections into their set. Additionally, they were able take into consideration the musical preferences of our guests and added songs to keep everyone dancing. I’d HIGHLY recommend Jumpstart to any couple dreaming to have a rockin’ reception.
It was a pleasure to work with the band - and their music was superb!
If you don't have tons of money to blow and you would like to have a good band, then JUMPSTART is the answer. Very solid.
I met Mike, band leader of JumpStart, when I was studying for my GRE’s at JP’s Java on San Jacinto, right across from UT-Austin’s campus. At the time I started talking to Mike, my ...
boyfriend and I were not engaged, but sooner or later he gave me his card and said, “Well, if you guys ever get engaged, give me a call and I’ll give you a great deal.”
Well…my boyfriend proposed to me a few months later, and after we booked our venue we were looking for a band. I called Mike, and he sent me to JumpStart’s website and told me that due to our uncharacteristic meeting , he would throw in the cocktail set of music for free. I was in on price alone, but my (now) husband is very picky about music and we insisted on seeing the band first-hand.
We unassumedly attended another wedding at a vineyard outside of Austin that the band was performing – the spring before our wedding. They have a great sound, and for the type of a band you need at a wedding, one that can do all sorts, they were perfect. My husband and I wanted to surprise our wedding guests by doing a Tango for our first dance, and Mike suggested and JumpStart performed the perfect piece. They learned “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire for my husband’s and mom’s first dance, and they were on fire! Everything they did was incredible, but what was more was that I could count on Mike as a friend. I wasn’t worried at all about what they were going to do, I knew it was going to be great, and it was. The cocktail set was incredibly classy and beautiful. As an outdoor wedding, that can sometimes be hard to pull off, but they were wonderful. As an indoor, performance band for the reception, they were funny, full of life, hysterical and wonderful! They got everyone out on the dance floor and were able to joke with our guests. They were perfect. I would recommend them to anyone because, really, they can perform anything well (although we did choose them strictly for their blues, funk, and Latino-style music forte). JumpStart all the way!
Jumpstart played at my daughters wedding and were absolutely fantastik. They are high energy, fun, entertaining and very professional. They were easy to work with in the planning...
stages and are on top of all the needs of a wedding party. Acually, they are like a proffesional wedding planner for music and when the wedding arrives, they truly deliver. I highly reccomend Jumpstart and assure anyone that you won't be dissapoited. In fact, it will be one of your easiest decisions to make and will end up being one of the best decisions you make for your wedding.

ridal party in with their dynamic jazz trio. The singers were absloutely incredible, they blew us away by breaking out with the Frank Sinatra voice to sing "Fly Me to the Moon" for our daughters first dance, then singing country “I loved her First” by Heartland for the father-daughter dance, they were amazing. The band had a really diverse playlist, learned additional songs for us, and did an amazing job of choosing songs that kept the dance floor packed all night long! And during dancing, the singer was down off the stage, in the crowd, dancing and interacting with everyone. Everyone had a fabulous time. There is way too much to tell on this small review, please check out their website for videos. Mike Murillo, the contact for Jump Start himself is a great guy, very easy to work with and very knowledgeable, he met with us several times. I would reccommend Jump Start Band to everyone! Jumpstart you are amazing, could not have asked for more !

pstart was very professional, from the beginning. From the contract, to communicating all the details, their services were to the t. Also very personable and easy to contact. They answered all our questions, fulfilled ALL of our requests, and played amazing. They learned a new song for me and my groom and played it outstanding. And last but not least, they played What a Wonderful World for my dance with my dad...it was the best cover I had ever heard. And my dad - who had initially insisted on the Louis Armstron version - was very happy! Thanks, Jumpstart!

s no way that a band that caters to such a wide variety of music could possibly be good at it all…but they were! During the reception I had several people come up to me and tell me they loved the band! They had the dance floor full all night. I would recommend them to anyone!

ergy high all night. Jumpstart did not disappoint.
We are both native Austinites, so wanted a tried-and-true group of Austin musicians - Jumpstart has been playing parties for over twenty years! It’s important to be able to trust your bandleader, and we knew with Mike’s experience, we were in good hands.
They also have an extensive playlist, which they allowed us to mold to our tastes, and they had a sound technician to play DJ music between sets so that the music was seamless and sounded professional all night. When we went on to the dance floor for our first dance all I could think was “Wow! They sound amazing!” They played a wide variety of songs that had EVERYONE dancing – literally from my two year old cousin to my grandparents and everything in between.
I would recommend Jumpstart to any couples who are looking for a rock solid wedding band for their big day. Austin is chock full of musicians – so you can really pay as much as you want for a band here – but we found that the value we got with Jumpstart was equal to other bands who charge almost twice as much and don’t have as many musicians. Jumpstart had a 9-piece band, including a horns section and two awesome vocalists (one male and one female) that sounded great on the big day!
