A bride’s worst nightmare.
My experience at Joy Abendmode was stressful, unprofessional, caused me a great deal of anxiety and is something I do not wish on any bride.
The dress ...
on the left is the sample dress I tried on at the store and ordered. The dress on the right is the dress I received. A huge difference, caused by a completely different, cheaper fabric.
The day I went to pick up my dress, my mom immediately noticed the difference and told the store associates the dress is not made with the same fabric. They denied the fabric was different and said this is just “dye lot” and “m’am, we’ve been doing this for years, we know what we are talking about.” Even someone who is not a professional is able to tell the fabric is completely different, yet the professionals at Joy Abendmode didn’t want to admit it. While at the store, they tried to make me accept the dress as it was and told me how I looked so beautiful and how I didn’t even notice the difference at first.
I asked to try the sample dress again at the store to see how I felt and they didn’t want to let me, saying “we don’t have time for that”, when I was actually the last appointment of the night, and this is my wedding dress, not a pair of jeans. It was only when I insisted that they let me. After that, they agreed to contact the manufacturer and let them know about how I felt. Although, this wasn’t about feelings, this was a fact.
Two days after this happened, I called the store to follow up and once again, they denied the fabric is different and told me they were still waiting to hear back from the manufacturer.
5 days later, still no word from the store so I call again. I finally heard back from them and they said “we JUST heard back from the manufacturer and they told us they used a difference fabric for your dress than the one you tried on as they make this dress in two fabrics.”
So, it seems like after all, the dress was made with the WRONG fabric and it wasn’t just the DYE LOT. The staff at Joy Abendmode lied to my face, and tried to make me go home with the wrong dress.
I never blamed the store for the fact that my dress was made with the incorrect fabric as this was a manufacturer mistake, but the way the store associates handled this situation, didn’t admit the fabric was wrong, tried to make me to accept the dress as is, is completely unprofessional, disappointing, and wrong. The manufacturer offered to remake the dress, a solution I did not accept as at this point both the manufacturer and Joy Abendmode had lost my trust and I wasn’t sure I would get the correct dress in time for my wedding.
This entire situation happened two months before my wedding causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety. During one of our phone conversations they even had the audacity to tell me to calm down. They did not offer any solutions on their behalf, they only offered the solution the manufacturer did.
Do not go to Joy Abendmode!! Save your money for another store who actually cares about their brides, doesn’t lie to your face, and doesn’t just care about their profits.
This place has resulted in me having a horrible experience. My first appointment was pleasant and seemed like a lovely place but little did I know it was going to make getting my d...
ream dress into a nightmare. To start, they have some really weird rules and you cannot take any pictures. SO I had no pictures of my dress until after I bought it. That should have been my number one red flag. After that first appointment I ordered 2 dresses that I felt really good about. Later they sent some contracts over and confirmation of my sizing, I told them it seemed wrong and that turned into whole thing. I went back in to get remeasured (even though they said they couldn't do anything about it since the designers already had measurements). The sizing was off and she changed nothing. Months later, I got my dress. Turns out they got my measurements completely wrong for one of the dress (I had to get it taken in 2.5 sizes...) and the other was doable in terms of sizing. My bridal dress looks NOTHING like the dress I originally tried on. It looks like a cheap knockoff of the dress I thought I was purchasing. I am extremely disappointed and have cried multiple times. I wish I never ordered a dress from here. I am currently trying to find a new extremely cheap dress that I can love (even though I spent almost 10K here) so I can feel at least a little confident & happy on my wedding day.
When a dream becomes reality and exceeds all expectations it is nirvana. I know that you're supposed to go with friends and family to create the perfect experience, but I opted to...
go solo. And it was just as emotional and satisfying being the only person's opinion that really matters in the end. I'm happy I did. It was my piece of the wedding that was selfishly for me to enjoy. The only things that was missing was the bottle being popped!
Absolutely an incredible experience. Found the dress at my first appointment under one hour and under budget. The staff was so sweet and made me feel so comfortable.
My experience at Joy Abendmode Bridal was nothing short of everything I hoped for. The girls made the experience fun and easy. I felt comfortable and confident in their guidance th...
rough the whole process. I would recommend this place to all the brides-to-be out there!
100% recommend! Meredith was great to work with and made the process fun and exciting! She really listened to what I wanted to try on and went with my style and vision. She and Dia...
nna made the process easy and seamless.
The dresses are unique and stylish and I’m so happy to have said yes to the dress here! The prices were in line with every other store I checked out, too!
I had a private appointment last Friday to find my wedding dress. I am in love with the designer Milla Nova and made the decision to travel from Miami to this specific boutique due...
to their large selection of Milla Nova's dresses.
From beginning to end, this experience was everything I could've asked for!
Dianna and Meredith are awesome ! They are so helpful and really help me find the perfect dress. In less than 1 hour, I said yes to the dress. They understood exactly what I was looking for.
I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed!
Had so much fun finding my wedding dress at Joy Abendmode!! Dress selection was absolutely beautiful. They had a wide variety of options at varying prices points -- I was pleasantl...
y surprised when my dress was well below my budget. The consultants were extremely knowledgeable about customization options and were able to quickly get a sense for my personality and preferences. We also played around with some accessories that helped me really visualize myself on my wedding day. Compared to other bridal boutiques I didn't feel awkward or pressured. Overall very positive experience!
I cant say enough about my experience at Joy Abendmode Bridal. I traveled all the way from Pittsburgh, PA for my visit and the selection at the bridal shop is sooo amazing! There...
is literally something for every bride. My visit to the bridal shop was great! Meredith and Cydney were extremely prompt, warm, friendly, and they really made me feel like a star during my visit. The ladies were also very honest and knowledgable about the dresses, order timeline, and sizing which is very important during this process. My only gripe is I wish my visit could have been a little longer than one hour. I went in with a game plan and very specific dresses/ brands that I wanted to try on. However if I didn’t know that in advance, 1 hour would truly have not been enough time to find the dress of my dreams. I chose a Millanova dress that was not available in Pittsburgh, and I was so very happy that I was able to try on the gown prior to ordering. Meredith followed up after my visit and has been very communicative throughout this entire process. I truly cant wait to return to pick up my dress and hang out with ladies again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The dress selection was amazing! Great quality and you were actually allowed to look and suggest what you wanted to try on- I went to another unrelated salon and they wouldn’t let ...
you touch the samples. The team was also great! Did not feel like used car sales men like so many other bridal salons. Gave me time and space to see what I wanted and pulled exactly what I wanted to try on from their website.
I have not been able to shut up about how amazing the team at Joy Abendmode was! Not only did I find my dream dress (at a surprisingly very reasonable price!), I also just felt so ...
comfortable with Meredith, and she made the whole experience so amazing. It was my first time trying on dresses and I had been worried that no matter what shopping at bridal salons would mean the team was pushy and would make me feel pushed into a decision. Well - it was COMPLETELY the opposite! Meredith was so kind, helpful talking through what dress styles would look best on my 5 foot frame, but in such a gentle and knowledgeable way. My mom loved how they do the reveal for each dress you try on, in such a beautiful fitting room. They had such a great mix of styles and every single dress was so gorgeous. I am SO glad I found my dream dress at a local shop and with such an amazing team!
I typically do not leave online reviews, however, in this case I felt compelled to do so. Our experience with this bridal boutique was underwhelming at its best and absurd at its w...
orst. If you are looking for customer service akin to Spirit Airlines, then this is the boutique for you.
My wife typically does not wear dresses, but she really wanted to be more traditional for our formal wedding at Planterra Conservatory. Since we were in a long distance relationship at the time, I was not able to assist her with wedding dress shopping in person. I did regrettably suggest Joy Abendamode as I heard good things and hoped for her to have a seamless experience. Boy was I wrong!
From the beginning, the boutique listed our New Year’s Eve wedding as January 31, 2022. In June, they did explain that due to the pandemic, dresses were taking longer to arrive after ordering. However, no alternatives were provided or suggested such as the options of expedited shipping, purchasing from designers whose collections have been known to arrive in shorter timeframes, encouragement of purchasing a floor sample, or providing the contact information for their preferred seamstresses to pre-arrange dates for potential alterations since they do not do alterations in house.
We reached out to the boutique in October for an update on the ETA of the dress since we had not heard from them at all since purchase in June. We were told that the dress was set to arrive on December 7 which would be approximately three weeks before our wedding. That created a very tight turnaround time to pick up the dress and have it altered prior to our ceremony. The bridal consultant did not seem to be phased by this time frame nor did she even bother to offer any other solutions. After begging and pleading, she casually mentioned that they could request expedited shipping for an additional fee, which was quickly provided.
The dress did arrive in early November, but we were not allowed to pick it up without an appointment; the next available appointment at the shop was two weeks from the time of arrival. At every turn it was always something with this place! There was a grave lack of transparency and communicating with them was equivalent to pulling teeth. This would not have been so awful if the experts in the industry provided alternatives and solutions upfront rather than on the back end. I do not wish this experience on anyone. The lack of professionalism and service at Joy Abendamode was disappointing. This was the exact OPPOSITE experience that I had with my own wedding dress process, which was luxurious and first class from start to finish (shout out to Mira Couture in Chicago).
Take all of their five star reviews with a grain of salt and think twice about utilizing them if you are willing to spend thousands of dollars on a gown. I am certain there are better boutiques in the Detroit metro area, and if you are not confident with what is offered locally, feel free to head to Chicago for an amazing experience.
Such a beautiful selection at Joy Abendmode, absolutely stunning dresses and so impressed with the ladies there- they are so accommodating, did not feel like I was being pressured ...
but only that they wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Since they book ahead you are the only bride there which makes the experience that much more special, they are also so organized and I love that you are able to look online and pick dresses prior to the appointment, made the experience that much smoother. So happy with my dress selection, such a gorgeous dress and so happy that I said yes to the dress with Joy Abendmode, I highly recommend

perience easy, fun, and completely stress free. I can’t recommend this store enough. They have a pretty large collection of dresses and they are all so stunning. I found my dress quickly and Meredith caught all the good angles of me in my dress and sent all the photos to my phone at the end of my appointment. If I could give them 100 stars, I absolutely would!
Oh my gosh, I can't even BEGIN to say how in love I am with Linda, Meredith, and Dianna at Joy Abendmode.
I had a very specific vision in mind for dress. I have been looking at c...
outure designers pretty much my whole life - I even had an appt. at Roma Sposa right after my first appt. at Joy because I thought that was the route I would go. As soon as I left my first appointment at Joy Abenmode, I knew that I was done looking and cancelled my next appt. to try on the dresses I had been looking at my whole life.
We had the salon to ourselves, which was incredible. You watch the tv shows and hear about bridal salons that are very impersonal and kind of push you through. That is NOT the experience here! They still have the necessary COVID-19 precautions in place, which, when bringing your 86 year old grandmother that you REALLY want at your wedding, one can appreciate!
I was able to pull some dresses myself, but I had a really specific vision of what I wanted. I never in a million years though that it would be possible and I would have to sacrifice some of the things I wanted. Nope, not on Linda, Meredith, and Dianna's watch! Meredith put together a look with dresses they had to help create the vision.
We then set - up a custom dress appt. for the following week. Who knew custom was so accessible and reasonably priced!
My mom and went back to the store and worked with the ladies on the exact look, draping, fabric, beading. I truly felt like a princess or movie star while Linda was using her incredible eye to drape and pin fabric on me, Dianna was running design logistics, and Meredith was making sure I had everything I wanted and ever dreamed of.
We weren't even out the door before Dianna was communicating with the designer and getting my order in! Truly, these women were exactly what I needed. In the midst of the challenges and heaviness brought on by this pandemic, it has been hard to get excited about planning a wedding. They totally changed that for me! Everything feels like it is coming together now, and I couldn't have done it without these ladies.
After my two hour appointment, we left feeling like we were family or life-long friends. I am excited to spend the next year working with and getting to know Linda, Meredith, and Dianna.
Thank you, ladies!
This was such a positive experience! They have an amazing selection and were so helpful.
I recently purchased a dress through Joy. The entire experience was wonderful and I’m super happy with the customer service during the appointment
Super friendly and they totally impressed me: I only showed them a few pictures and chose dresses I liked from their website link they sent me before the appointment and they hit ...
my taste on the spot - with every dress I tried on! The second one was MY dress already which I picked to wear on my big day!

edibly perfect, breezy, and special! I'm still shocked I found the perfect dress that quickly (and such a deal!). As a wedding vendor myself, I know how important it is to choose your vendors; you're not just choosing the product/service/"vibe" you want, your choosing people who are going to be there to be there for you- so glad I chose Joy Abendmode.
My experience at Joy Abendmode was amazing! The women there were very attentive and helped me nail down my dream dress and made the entire process very low stress and enjoyable!

h for black owned bridal boutiques…Joy Abendmode Bridal popped up. I looked through their collections and booked my appointment. From speaking with Linda regarding my appointment to my actual consultation….the experience was amazing.
I thought I would have to go to other stores, but I found my dream dress in one appointment. I’m so thankful for Meredith & Dianna for providing me with an experience I will never forget. I highly recommend Joy Abendmode to all future brides.
I had an amazing experience at Joy! The staff was super helpful and friendly and the dresses were absolutely gorgeous!

t was hesitant to commit to, since I never thought I'd be that lucky to find a dress at the first place I shop. I went to a few more stores, but inevitably came back a couple weeks later to finally purchase the dress I loved from the beginning. Meredith and Diana were both great and so helpful during this process. Neither were pushy, even when I was scared to commit to the dress at my first visit. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want a unique, beautiful dress!

is what made this appointment top-notch. Meredith and Dianna were so helpful and made me feel like family as soon as I walked through the door. Meredith understood my vision and what I wanted in a dress almost immediately and knew whether I liked a dress or not as soon as I stepped into one- much like a dear friend would. My experience at Joy was better than I could have ever dreamed and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

remony gown, but had such a lovely experience, I went back for a second gown for the reception. I would recommend this bridal boutique 100 times out of 100. If you are even considering a gown from Joy, plan to leave with THE dress... or dresses. 😁 It’s so much more than finding the right dress, at Joy it’s a full experience that makes you feel like family. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment. You will not regret your choice.

ike. I felt so comfortable and beautiful. If I could have taken all the dresses home, I would have haha. They were so fun, professional, and personable. Literally the best shop I went to in the Metro Detroit area. The fact that I got to customize my gown with an affordable budget was incredible! I am so happy with my dress! Yes! Yes! 1000x yes to this dress! Absolutely perfect! I cannot say thank you enough to Meredith. She was the best stylist a girl could ask for. She was patient, kind, and so professional. She sat and looked over every little detail with me to make sure it was exactly how I wanted it. I absolutely loved working with her. Definitely book with her if you can! Best experience! Thank you for everything!
My experience at Joy Abendmode was better than I ever could have imagined, especially because I was dress shopping during the pandemic. I brought my sister and fiance with me, and ...
we had the full store to ourselves with the AMAZING Meredith. I've watched a lot of "Say Yes to the Dress" in my time, and I was so worried about getting the right consultant - someone who got me and my insecurities - and Meredith was like a straight up fairy godmother. She put me at ease, she let my sister and fiance be their crazy selves, and she really, really paid attention to how I responded to each dress. She did not rush me or pressure me, and the salon had one of my favorite designers ever (which a lot of other places did not have). I said yes to my dress, and it was my very first appointment trying things on. Meredith also picked the perfect veil, and the whole thing came together more flawlessly than I could have hoped for. As someone who doesn't always feel beautiful, I couldn't have felt better about myself after leaving my appointment and saying yes to the absolute perfect dress and veil.

. The do not answer their phone (half the time their mailbox is full) they do not return emails or phone calls. I have multiple friends who have experienced the same thing with this bridal shop; great service at the beginning but as soon as they get your money they could careless about you. I drove 10 hours out of state and paid $800.00 more for my second dress just so I wouldn't give this bridal shop my business again (they had the second dress I wanted at their shop)

I walked into the bridal boutique, hoping to get a gown for my sister, but the way I was welcomed and catered to by Meredith and Diane was simply indescribable.
Firstly, the boutique itself is breathtaking! Secondly, the care and precautionary measures that they had in place due to Covid-19 reassured me that I was not only in a beautiful place, but also a safe place.
The part of my experience that blew me away was the way the ladies listened to every intricate detail of my story, and ultimately served me as if I were the queen of England.
I walked out of the boutique with a big smile on my face. That was the best customer service I had ever received anywhere, and what made it even more incredible is that it was GENUINE.
I am so glad I chose Joy Abendmode Bridal! My sister is going to be a stunning bride! Thank you!
I was so excited to try on dresses at Joy. Every dress was gorgeous and unique. I had so many options, I wish I could’ve bought them all!

Meredith knew exactly what I was looking for, even when I didn’t totally know lol They have beautiful gowns and only carry a limited number of collections from high quality designers - only the best! They do work with an outside seamstress for any necessary alterations, but for a very reasonable price they actually ordered my dress in a custom length so it was absolutely perfect. The experience shopping here was so personalized and the staff truly love their work and take pride in making a bride’s experience something special.
