BRIDES BEWARE
Wishing I could write a better review, breaks my heart that my wedding weekend was left with such a sour feeling. After all the planning and anticipation the miserabl...
e owner, Eric, left me in tears on my wedding night. His arrogance is absolutely disgusting which is a shame when you consider the history and beauty of the resort.
Writing this mainly to ensure no other bride pays the amount of money we did and ends up in tears with all of your guests being spoken to like trash after traveling for you.
Our family absolutely loved the weekend up until our wedding night. Having everyone together in their cabins was amazing and I could not have been happier. Even as I entered my cabin and saw a DEAD MOUSE in a trap, I STILL had no complaints.
At 10 pm fountain point is required to have no amplified music, a fact both my husband and I were aware of and respected as best we could. We had 60 people at our wedding and at 10 o'clock on the dot Eric came around FILMING us because we hadn't immediately left the tent. I saw him and approached very kindly and asked "hey are we still good here?" Hoping to get a response of "hey we should start moving over to a cabin or fire pit" but instead Eric looked at me extremely disrespectfully and said "looks like you need to move on to dicks pour house" then proceeded to tell us to walk a mile down the road in the dark.
IT GETS WORSE- after Eric let me know we needed to leave the tent (around 10:20) I started shuffling everyone into a cabin & we turned on music on an extremely small speaker. Eric proceeded to enter the cabin without knocking or asking (completely illegal) and started to scream at us all. I walked up kindly with tears down my face saying that I'm sorry and he told me I was "drunk" (which I was not). He told my mother in law to "get out", swore at my father and Brother, and even dialed 911 as a threat at one point. He never came to talk to me the next morning or apologize and instead acted as if we were white trash because someone had brought out a beer bong (which our 82 year old grandmother was doing) - oh the horror!!.
There is a review from 2017 on TripAdvisor that is from another bride with an exact same play by play on her wedding night... DO NOT BOOK HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SENT TO BED AT 10 OCLOCK EXACTLY
Eric is a miserable, arrogant, unprofessional person who doesn't deserve the responsibility of maintaining such a beautiful and historic site. He should be absolutely ashamed of his behavior and try to find some joy in life. It's truly sad for him.
I've attached the other review from 2017, it is the exact same experience we had and it will be yours too if you book here.
Absolutely incredible and beautiful experience at Fountain Point. Our guests raved about the location and the Fountain Point staff, and we couldn’t agree more!! It was a wonderful ...
week we had here and we are so grateful.
Let's start with the fact that having a wedding at Fountain Point was the reason that my now husband and I decided to get engaged when we did. It was our dream location... Leelanau...
, everyone stays on-site, vintage cute, lakeside. We were so excited and honestly, our wedding was wonderful. However, Fountain Point is seriously lacking in some areas. I'm not sure they're entirely prepared to host weddings, even though they do many of them every year. It never seemed like they had it together and our vendors weren't surprised. It would be helpful for them to create a document to give couples that details all of the rules, expectations, and things they have to offer. Instead, I had to email over and over with questions that I didn't even know I needed to ask. They also failed to disclose that DJs weren't allowed until after we had already booked one. They "accidentally" forgot to tell us that the breakfast truck included in everyone's stay was no longer working with them... they knew 9 months before the wedding but I didn't find out until 2 months before. They do have a lot of things that you can use including industrial coffee makers, galvanized steel troughs, deep freezers, toasters, etc. but you have to ask for all of it. We got through these issues... and then came the worst of it. We arrived on the Wednesday before our wedding to find the bathrooms on the 2nd floor of the hotel were in the process of being renovated, which no one told us, and there were NO TOILETS installed and Erik (one of the managing brothers) treated me terribly when I called to express concern. He also said to one of my guests the next day, "We have an anxious bride on our hands." This is unacceptable. I hardly consider concern over a lack of bathrooms as me being an "anxious bride." Thankfully, they were finished in time for our guests who arrived on Thursday, but he took no responsibility. They also started changing room assignments without asking me due to the bathroom situation after I worked very hard to assign my guests appropriately. Then, on Thursday, the hot water went out in half of the cabins and everyone had to share bathrooms. Again, no responsibility. Overall, I would choose to get married there again. It was an incredible setup for the wedding and allowed all of our friends and family to enjoy each other's company for 5 days. The game room is great, the property is beautiful, the staff is friendly, the fire pits are nice (they provide firewood), and the cottages are adorable. I just think they need someone who is event savvy to handle the weddings and communication.
Unable to proceed with the wedding due to COVID. The owner refused to refund our deposit. Definitely would not recommend.
We just had our wedding on June 5 2021 at Fountain Point and it was our dream come true. I think we could have searched the whole world and not find a place as wonderful as Fountai...
n Point, From the very start we wanted a location where we could have everyone stay on the same property on a lake. This venue blew our expectations out of the water. We kind of fell into Fountain Point because of Covid - our original venue couldn't accomodate us with the restrictions so weeks before our wedding we moved to Fountain Point and we are SO thrilled that we did. The setting is absolutely stunning. It feels like a magical land tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, where there is an open field of greenery, a gorgeous fountain and a view and access to stunning Lake Leelanau. Everyone stayed in cabins on the property and there was something for everyone to do: kayaking, swimming, lawn games, bikes, relaxing on the porch. It's impossible to have a bad time there. There is a stunning maple tree in the middle of the property where we had our Friday night welcome party and it was simply magical. For Saturday we were able to bring in our own tent and create the wedding of our dreams. The ceremony spot on the lake felt like heaven. It was absolutely perfect and will hold a special place in our hearts forever. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you to the entire team for making it a dream for us.
We were engaged at Fountain Point and were so excited to get married there surrounded by all of our loved ones. Other than lodging, you must supply everything for your wedding (ten...
t, bathroom trailer, generator, etc) so be mindful of that when budgeting. Fountain Point is very helpful in the planning process but really lets you lead the way. We used many of their recommended vendors and our day was PERFECT. Many guests have said it was "the most relaxed, enjoyable wedding they've ever been to" which I credit 100% to the vibe of Fountain Point.
There is no other spot like Fountain Point, and I can't imagine having gotten married anywhere else. Being able to spend the entire weekend with our guests on site was really incre...
dible and gave us the chance to spend so much more personal time with our guests than we otherwise would have been able to. While planning, we found it a little tricky to get firm answers on questions along the way, and the rooms and cabins tend more spartan than five star resort, but for us and the vibe we were going for, it was all absolutely perfect. Our guests were blown away by the hospitality, kindness and flexibility of the staff, and by how adorable the cabins are. Now we just have to come up with an excuse to do the whole thing over again in the future!
We couldn't have imagined a more perfect setting for our wedding than Fountain Point. We were able to have a welcome party there the evening before as well. It is such an interesti...
ng and unique element to have had our wedding guests all stay at the same location, and be able to continue celebrating with everyone after the reception ended!
