EJ Photography - Emily Dowd

r work. She captured every moment beautifully and perfectly!

either because of all the bad experiences they had had with other wedding photographers. Emily was awesome! She fit right in, made us all feel totally relaxed and we had a blast. She's hilarious. My wife and I both love our pictures. Happy wife, happy life!

d all our family portraits planned out!

was so much fun to work with. She took all our photo ideas and brought them to life. My family loved her so much, my brother used her at his wedding 18 months later. I would recommend Emily to anyone looking for a wedding photographer. She is truly the best!

ig day! Emily's stunningly beautiful work speaks for itself - she is everything a bride & groom could ever want in a photographer and more! She made us laugh and feel so comfortable in front of the camera the entire day and our wedding photos reflect that. We truly cannot say enough good things about Emily - she is terrific!

nd guide you through the day with ease. Emily did just that for me. She is so professional and skillful that you will not ever have to worry about whether your day is being captured beautifully. Even more, she'll make your big day LESS stressful by being a dependable friend. Even in the most stressful of moments, Emily maintains control, optimism, and confidence. We had torrential downpour right as we were heading out to take photos -- my worst nightmare. But thanks to Emily, I was able to relax and simply enjoy all that was happening. I could trust that she would handle the situation with grace and a calm, positive, and upbeat attitude. That was very much needed! The photos, of course, turned out beautifully. Lastly, I live out of state, so I literally didn't meet Emily face-to-face until she walked into my get-ready room to start taking photos. Because of her genuine, down-to-earth nature, I immediately felt like she was a true friend I had known for years. (And I was so sad to say goodbye to her at the end of the day -- I wasn't ready to let her go!) If there's any decision you make especially thoughtfully when it comes to your wedding, let it be that about your photographer. There's tremendous value in knowing that no matter what, your wedding photos are in the hands of a professional, reliable, wonderful person. Thank you, Emily! We will treasure the photos you gave us for countless years to come.

nt session was interesting, but not because she wasn't awesome. The weather was SO COLD and SO WINDY I don't know how she was able to capture so much without freezing her fingers off. She then spent countless hours editing our photos so we didn't look as code as we were. Can you imagine editing red ears and noses out of that many pictures?! None the less, our pictures rocked! Our wedding day, thank God, was the opposite. The tempurature was perfect. The skies were perfect. And Emily rocked with our extremely strict timeline. We did a first look which was perfect. I feel like we were on a revolving wheel with all the angels she was able to capture. We had to get all of our group photos in before the ceremony, too. And it makes it tough to get great photos when stress is still high and you're not ready to party yet! The photos still rocked and we managed to get as many on my list as we could. In between the ceremony and reception we only had 30 minutes to get family pictures. We did our wedding with Infinity and Ovation Yacht Charters so the boat had to leave!!! She was still able to capture the most important shots with family. Once we were on the boat she got so many gorgeous photos of my husband and I, and the Detroit skyline which we love! She also made sure to check with us before she left, anything else we had to have before the night was over (I recommend having a paper list if you don't want to forget somethings though, because you will)! After the wedding was all said and done, I will say the pictures took longer than I expected to arrive. Emily ended up with a family emergency, so I'm not docking her any stars for this one. I know any other time it would have been different, and because she was quick as a bunny with our enagement photos the previous fall, it was a fluck experience, because life happens! Overall, Emily is an amazing photographer and you will not be dissapointed if you bring her on to share in your wedding day!

en when posing through allll the family pictures. She goes above and beyond and makes sure to get all the shots you want on your big day! I highly recommend her amazing work! You will not be disappointed!!

a traditional and photojournalistic style - she was exactly what I was looking for. My wedding pictures are one of the most cherished and lasting representations of our wedding that I own - she was, by far, one of the best investments we made. Her images spark our memories and enhance them. We look back on our photos and can't believe how lucky we were that she fit us into her schedule. Her work is OUTSTANDING. Emily is professional, personable, and just plain cool. We love Emily's work so much, we asked her to do our newborn's photo shoot this summer. Once again, I was blown away. Her portrait work is just as impressive as her event coverage. I am, and will forever be, a fan of the work of Emily Janelle Dowd.

pictures turned out better than we could have ever imagined. She truly has a gift! We were equally impressed with the albums that she created for us afterward! She was so helpful in the process of selecting photos to use, but completely respected our opinions too. We were thrilled to be able to give our parents their own albums, also beautifully created by Emily. Her pictures speak for themselves. Emily is obviously a super talented photographer. However, there are lots of very good photographers out there which makes it hard to choose a photographer for your wedding. In my opinion, one of Emily's greatest strengths is her personality! She is one of the most genuine, professional, sweet, organized, easygoing people you'll meet. She made every single person in our families and wedding party feel comfortable all day long. That's something you won't find in all talented photographers. It was truly an honor to have her with me throughout my entire wedding day! My sister-in-law was so impressed with Emily that she used her as her wedding photographer the following year and we have recently had Emily take newborn photos of our daughter. It's pretty obvious that I strongly recommend Emily as a wedding photographer. She's amazing!!

phone a few times before our big day. Emily and her staff are very well organized and efficient; you can really tell they have done many weddings. Emily and her assistant worked so effectively together, they were both able to anticipate the others needs and they knew what the other wanted without having to ask, saving us a lot of time. Because they worked so well together and with us, we were able to get all the pictures we wanted and them some taken in a timely manor. They were even able to field some strange requests from our family and friends, and they were kind and courteous to everyone. Emily J. Dowd and her staff are great and the pictures were completely worth it. Thank you for the wonderful memories of our wedding day, we couldn’t have imagined they would turn our so well.

. We had our wedding at a golf course and I don’t know how they can look at the landscape and know just how to position us to make it look like we are in an endless meadow, but they can. Even with all the hustle and bustle going on around us (golfers, patrons of the country club, and all our guests), they still managed to take some pictures that made it look like we were the only two people in the world. We are completely satisfied and will defiantly ask her to photograph other big events we may have in the future. Thank You Emily J. Dowd and all your staff for all your hard work!

nt photos. Still to this day I have not witnessed more beautiful photos than the ones that Emily takes. She went from our wedding photographer to our family photographer. She takes the most beautiful photos of our boys and we are so thankful for her and her ability to capture times of our lives that just fly by too fast! She is just the best!!

e of the only physical keepsakes from our wedding day. I read hundreds of reviews and looked through hundreds of photos in trying to reach a decision. My fiance was possibly even more particular than I was (having worked in a photo lab before, he picked up on some things that I had missed). After much discussion, we decided to meet with Emily as she was our top choice. After meeting with Emily we knew we would not need to meet with anyone else. Not only does she take the most amazing pictures, but she is absolutely wonderful to work with! We booked Emily for both engagement photos and our wedding day. When we got our e-pics back, I was blown away by how great the pictures were. The day of our shoot was very hot, and I was worried I would look like a mess in some of them. But in the photos you can not tell at all! I didn't think it would be possible, but our wedding photos are even better than our e-pics. The day of the wedding was quite busy and emotional, but Emily was able to keep everything moving along at a nice pace without it feeling rushed or like she was bossing us around. She is truly a professional but also lots of fun! The photos from our wedding day are truly spectacular. Emily takes the time to edit and crop each and every photo. As a result each photo is just perfect. While the cost might be more than some of the other options, this is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. We had a limited budget for our wedding and probably spent more on photography than we should have, but I do not regret it for a second! I could not be happier with choosing Emily as our photographer.

good at what she does! So i felt the need to let others know. I (lol my wife) was fortunate enough to have found Emily to be our photographer for our wedding on 9/10/10 and she was like part of our family on this special day. She was friendly and not all annoying like some photographers are...she catches the moment and shows you your wedding day story through her photos. Of course you will get all the normal family and friend type of posed photos as well. I have since had 2 little boys and we have used her as well for newborn and family photos which no surprise to us have also been great. You won't be disappointed by choosing Emily.

graphy. Our wedding photos turned out stunning and we couldn't be happier. All of our friends and family fell in love with our pictures. Each shot was perfection. When we received our digital images, I had hundreds in my favorites folder! Emily is definitely a hard worker and wants nothing but the best for each client. She is very professional and keeps things moving on the wedding day. We had a very large wedding party and she was able to direct everyone quickly so we were able to get all the shots we wanted at the church. I would absolutely recommend Emily to anyone looking for a wedding photographer. She will NOT disappoint!

e details. Her work has always impressed me and I knew I had to have her. I knew Emily was smart, creative and hilarious, but to see her turn that into a living via capturing memories for others made me immensely proud. I hadn't seen her in several years, but it didn't matter. I laid eyes on her and it was as if we were back in the dorms, lovingly arguing over video games or music. That familiarity and ease are not exclusive to people she knows. Emily can read a situation and lead the way. The work of a wedding photographer is similar to herding cats (or, drunk cats, as it were) and Emily does it calmly and professionally. Take one look at her work and you will see genuinely relaxed, happy faces. It's the person who can make the noise of a wedding day go away to stop time and capture the meaningful images you want. That is Emily 100%. I could go on eternally about the work she does; she is thoughtful, flexible, attentive and just the person you want on your big day. She encompasses everything a wedding photographer should be and you will not regret hiring her.

he ability to take amazing photos. Essentially you are hiring/inviting a stranger to attend a very personal celebration, a milestone in your life that you will never forget. Let’s just say that some of the photographers that we interviewed were socially inept. Emily has an amazing ability to “fit in” with any group, individual or situation. We had a diverse group, and everyone loved her! Honestly, I felt like I had known her for years. Great sense of humor, super friendly, really professional and did I mention she’s a ninja? Emily is a master of the candid shot (which is one of my personal favorites, and we communicated this to her). At times I never even saw her, only the photos days later. I swear one time she popped out from behind the bushes! Emily will continue to pursue excellence. She will continue to make other photographers/packages obsolete. If you haven’t heard of her yet, you will in the near future. Thank you, Emily! We will setup an appointment soon for a family photo session.

s feel so comfortable. It was almost as if we were hiring a long-time friend to photograph our wedding. On the day of our wedding, Emily was nothing but professional. More importantly though, she made sure we had fun the entire day. With the stress that occur on your big day, it was so awesome to have some that could lighten the mood, keep us calm, and make us smile. Our photos were absolutely gorgeous. Emily was constantly trying to think outside of the box and come up with beautiful, unique shots. We were so happy with our photos that we have used Emily numerous times since our wedding for baby and child sessions. We absolutely love her and would never use another photographer.

n't have asked for more. My wedding was almost 3 years ago and since then, we have had the privilege of working with Emily twice more doing newborn photos for both of our sons. Anytime people see our wedding or baby photos they give nothing but compliments to the photographer! You will not be disappointed with Emily's work, she really is wonderful!!

omeone you can trust capturing your day. All my friends gave advice about what not to do and shared their own horror stories – a destination wedding with thumbprints in all the pictures, albums that looked like they were made after someone’s first day on the job, or photographers who got the shots, but at the expense of being overly conspicuous and disrupting to their special day. I knew I didn’t want any of that…… Emily was referred to us by my best friend, and after corresponding with her and reading her website profile, not to mention looking at all the BEAUTIFUL photos she had taken of other weddings, I knew we had found the right person. Her manner was very professional, but it was also so much more than that. She certainly knows her craft, and she knew when I needed her to direct us, and when I needed her to just blend into the background and capture those candid moments. She knew how to be, where to be, and when to be, and for as nervous as we both were on that day, we were extremely grateful to have her. I’m one of those people who dislikes most of her pictures, and there wasn’t a SINGLE shot she took of me that I didn’t like. To be honest, the entire album she put together was a MASTERPIECE. She made us all look like supermodels. Her talent is evident, and I don’t need to boast, because the pictures speak for themselves. Choose Emily. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed.

were flawless- she even worked with the not so nice church and got all our important church pics in!! We've shown people our album and some pictures we have from our wedding and they have in turn used Emily for their weddings as well!! I truly did not worry about our pictures at all on our wedding day knowing Emily was in charge, and I was not disappointed in the least. I cannot recommend her enough, everything turned out beautifully!!!

x! She had such great advise about the entire wedding (even if it didn't pertain to the photography portion of the day)! I don't think there are enough good things to say about Emily and Crystal!! The photography was the most important thing to both my husband and I... These pictures are the physical memories that we have of the most special day for our entire life! I was so nervous to choose someone to trust with that.. Emily out did herself!! Not only did she get absolutely gorgeous pictures, when I look at them I remember the EXACT feeling I had at that moment. She captured both the beauty AND emotion of everything. Our wedding party got a little crazy once we were taking pictures at the reception but both her and Crystal went with the flow and just had fun with us. I wish I could go on for days about how happy we have been with her!! I will recommend her to every person I know that is getting married!! AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!!!!!

ofessional and her experience shows in every shot that she takes and direction that she gives. Important too are those moments that she captured that you didn't know she captured...I actually cried at some of the candid shots she got of the bride and groom. Her attention to detail captured their essences and personalities as they were simply having fun. I was amazed that we didn't even notice her or her assistant yet after viewing the photos she was everywhere, capturing little nuances of the entire day. I have attended many weddings and been in a few wedding parties but my mind was blown away when I saw the wedding album she put together. Just beyond anything I had seen and something I would want for any friend or family member. Thank you Emily for making that amazing day live on for us through your photos!

rk with. She has always been super responsive, flexible, and honestly one of the nicest vendors I have ever worked with. Emily has an amazing eye for detail and she really knows her stuff. She was wonderful on our wedding day when it came to schedule and knowing what needed to get done, when, where, etc. And she knew just how to get those perfect shots and really capture all of the special moments, no matter how small. I would 110% recommend Emily (and I do recommend her to all of my friends that have gotten married since us!)

menting the day. Emily knows how to capture those unique & individual moments that happen in a day overflowing with special moments. She manages to be involved without becoming obvious, which is a must to capture those fleeting moments naturally as they happen. Even for the staged family shots, Emily is able to keep family members together and on task, which in our case was akin to herding cats! Best of all was our wedding album. Emily was able to take her pictures & retell the story of our day in such a striking manner, from the bridal party/groomsmen getting ready to the ceremony itself and all the way to the celebrated moments with friends & family at the reception. We will cherish Emily's work for years to come!

ld have been lost forever had she not captured them. Her creativity is not limited to normal "wedding poses", and for that I am thankful. Beyond the final results, I was happy with every other aspect of the process. Meeting with her and discussing what we wanted was easy and enjoyable. She quickly put this nervous bride at ease. She has a great sense of humor which made it easier when it came to photographing *some* members of my family, haa haa. Seriously, this was the best use of my wedding budget. My wedding was over before I could really enjoy most of it, but I will have those photos for the rest of my life! Thanks to Emily, my young daughter will someday be able to see a photo of my great grandmother (now deceased) dancing with my husband. That is worth more than I could have ever paid her! Her pricing is very fair. There are so many people out there who call themselves "photographers" now days, because they bought a fancy camera. It's hard to weed through to find someone really good. Look no further! This is genuine talent. You are not paying for a good camera. You are paying for the woman behind the camera. I recommend her as, hands down, the best photographer out there!

ove with her photojournalist style. We are also happy to say that we grew close to her throughout the whole planning process so it felt more like we had a close friend photographing our wedding then someone we hired! We are so happy with our wedding photos and album...we continue to brag about how lucky we were to find Emily! In fact we were so happy with Emily that we have since hired her to take our family photos and we are very excited to have just booked her to take our upcoming maternity and newborn photos later this year! I would highly recommend Emily to anyone! We are proud to say that we have found our lifetime photographer!

y crazy family. I couldn't have asked for anyone better than Emily. There were 3 weddings in my family within a 4 month span that year, and my wedding was easily the favorite, and when I showed my family the DVD of all the pictures Emily took, my uncle (who hardly says anything) stated that the pictures just captured how great and wonderful the day was. Not to mention, my mom was ready to adopt Emily has her 4th daughter. She truly was (and still is) like a member of our family. Since our wedding was in Frankenmuth and it was a destination wedding, Emily didn't stay overnight, but we actually missed her when she left. Good thing we called her a few years later to take our son's baby pictures! Somehow Emily has the incredible talent of looking through the lens of her camera and capturing the true personality and magic of each event and person she photographs!

os calm. It started to rain, and they kept the whole group calm, and still made all of our picture requests happen. We really had a blast working with them! Our sneak peak photos are beautiful, and we cannot wait to see the rest! We know that the photos by Emily will be the perfect reminders of our beautiful wedding day!

ndled properly. Our photos were BEAUTIFUL and everyone comments on how amazing our wedding album turned out. I am a person that hates every photo of myself and Emily captured many wonderful photos of me that I even loved. You will not regret choosing Emily/EJ Photography for your special day!

ed throughout our home. Since our wedding, we had a son who has also been photographer by Emily. We've had great experiences with Emily and hope to continue the fun of her capturing the special moments of our growing family!

d her by chance, online, met with her, and thought her pictures were beautiful and her prices very reasonable. Plus she was super nice. So we bought a wedding package from her that included an engagement session. She came out to where we were living then and spent hours with us for our engagement pics. We got to know her that day, and we were totally delighted with her expertise, her laid-back attitude, and her super hilarious sense of humor. It was a great day, and the pics turned out amazing, but it was nothing compared to our actual wedding day a few months later. She spent the entire day with us, from the salon in the morning until the reception was winding up at like 11pm (which was well beyond the time I expected her to stay). As others have said, she is a total ninja. I actually made the banquet manager go find her to make sure she was getting some dinner because I had no idea where she was. Looking at our STUNNING pictures, you'd think she was in our faces all day. I still can't image how she could have gotten some of the incredible moments she captured. I never saw her!! She made the formal pics after the ceremony go very smoothly, and gave us great suggestions and ideas for some poses that turned out to be my favorite shots. The rest of the day was all candid shots, and my husband and I still marvel at how perfectly she managed to capture every special moment of our wedding day. My entire family loved Emily, and she has gone on to shoot two (or three? I lost count) of my friends weddings, and they were all equally amazed and delighted with her. We were so lucky to find Emily, and I can say with absolute confidence that she will MAKE YOUR WEDDING AWESOME. HIRE HER NOW.

I immediately decided when it was my turn to "tie the knot" she would be our photographer. I didn't even meet with any other photographer because there was no need - Emily is hands down one of the best decisions we made when planning our wedding. Our photographs and album are beautiful! She is fun, easy to work with, creative, and makes everyone feel comfortable, not to mention puts out a great product! When we had our first child, we even hired Emily again to take some family photos, that's how much we like working with her. Trust me, you will not go wrong in deciding to work with Emily!

erything was based on email and phone. Emily was the only one who responded as a human being, not as a blanket reply. From the first contact with her, I knew I wanted her to capture our day. Her work I saw on her website was what I was looking for, and she was professional yet personable. My husband and I hired her without ever meeting her! When we finally did meet just a week before our big day, we knew we had made the right choice. She was very down to earth, listened to everything we wanted and gave us more ideas to run with. She rode the party bus after the ceremony and captured some of the most amazing moments from our day; One of our favorites was standing in the middle of Woodward Ave for a kiss..on a gameday! To this day (6 years now) we STILL get compliments on our photographer, how nice and fun she was, and how amazing our pictures turned out. We could not have asked for a better photographer, who has become a good friend. You will not be disappointed!! :)

e to her - she is funny and so easy to get along with. She made my husband open up and feel more comfortable. She was available for consultations anytime and was quick to respond to questions or concerns I had leading up to the big day. She started feeling like a friend, instead of just some vendor I hired to show up on my wedding. She was non-obtrusive and her style fit perfectly with our vision. We have since used her for family photos as well and her photos are just gorgeous.

rother, and everyone has had nothing but great things to say about her and her work. When we had our first meeting we totally hit it off. She was so easy to work with and did an amazing job with our photos and album. I was 100% satisfied. Emily is a very talented photographer who makes picture taking enjoyable! I felt like I had hired an old friend to take our photos on our big day. She was great. Another bonus is that she is quick to respond to correspondence which always put my mind at ease. I was also in two weddings that Emily photographed besides my own and she is just fun to work with! I HIGHLY recommend that you to hire her for your wedding. You will be so happy that you did. :) P.S. She also takes amazing baby/family pics!

ss, it took her 6 months to find her photographer. I was nervous for her wedding day and to meet her photographer, but she could not have made a better choice! It was like she found our fourth sister. Emily is so professional and a BLAST to be around. We had the best time with her and never once worried about a thing. Now here I am, a few years later and I'm bringing Emily to Pittsburgh for my very own wedding! it was never even a question when it came to who our photographer would be. I can't wait to spend our day with her and I would recommend her to anyone, even from a totally different state!!

t 10 years. I've met and worked with pretty much every wedding photographer in the state of Michigan, so I've seen it all. Once, a photographer stood on a church few to get his shot and the priest stopped the processional to yell at him. He yelled back at the priest and the priest made him leave the church..this was all DURING the processional. So, like I said, I have seen it ALL as far as wedding photographers are concerned. Well, when it was finally my turn to get married, I didn't even have to think twice about who I wanted for my photographer and I actually planned my wedding date around Emily's availability. At the time I got engaged, I had worked with Emily at least 30 times I was always so impressed at how well she worked under pressure. And trust me, there's a lot of pressure when photographing a wedding..I mean, it's not a hollywood movie set where you can do several takes until you get it right. Weddings are days full of emotion and you must be on your toes at all times to make sure you get those little moments captured. Emily does what she has to do to get her shot, but never at the expense of making your guests feel uncomfortable or causing a distraction. She's professional, fun, funny, friendly, personable and quick witted. All of these attributes really matter when you pick a photographer because this person is literally going to be interacting with you from start to finish. You can hate your cake person, but if you are even slightly annoyed with the person you hire to do your pictures, it will affect you and ultimately it will affect your pictures. Now that I've gone on and on about Emily's personality, let me talk now about her work. She's an artist and she's very gifted. Not everyone in the business is, but this woman knows her stuff. She knows her cameras too and she worked with them all day. She's an expert with lighting and she doesn't settle for less than perfect when it comes to getting just the right shot. After she gets the perfect raw shot, she then turns to editing to make it absolutely perfect. We love our wedding pictures. We have them displayed all over our house and every single day I walk past them and I smile. I smile because not only are our photos are amazing but I smile because every time I look at the, I remember Emily. So, in conclusion...look no further. Stop what you're doing and HIRE HER. You will not regret it...I promise.
