We reached out to Rodney Thompson (DJ Mad Skills) regarding DJ services for our wedding in May 2027. Initially, everything seemed professional and we were interested in learning mo...re about his services.
My fiancée missed a phone call from Rodney on a Friday afternoon because she was at work. Instead of simply leaving a message and waiting for a callback, he accidentally left an extended voicemail that continued recording after he apparently thought he had hung up.
The contents of that voicemail were shocking. He repeatedly used profanity, insulted my fiancée for not answering her phone, complained about "this generation," and made comments specifically directed toward women planning weddings. Some of the remarks included: "You don't wanna pick up then f*** you," "What's the point of having a phone if you aren't going to answer it?" and "The girls getting married need to pick up the GD phone." There was much more than that.
What makes this even harder to understand is that the purpose of the call was apparently to discuss details he considered urgent, despite our wedding not taking place until May 2027. Missing a single phone call during the workday should not result in a prospective client being spoken about this way.
What frustrates me most is that this situation never needed to happen. My fiancée was working. Instead of leaving a professional message and waiting for a callback, Rodney chose to go on a profanity-filled rant. As a result, I had to stop what I was doing, listen to a voicemail attacking my future wife, and personally address behavior that should never come from someone marketing themselves as a professional wedding vendor.
The irony is hard to miss. Much of the voicemail consisted of complaints about people not working hard enough or not answering their phones, while he was actively creating an unnecessary distraction for two people who were, in fact, at work.
As a man, I found the voicemail hostile, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. My fiancée found it even more disturbing. After hearing the entire recording, she felt many of the comments reflected a dismissive and misogynistic attitude toward young women planning weddings. Others can draw their own conclusions.
After hearing the voicemail, I personally called Rodney and made it very clear how inappropriate I found his comments. Missing a phone call is normal. Verbally attacking a potential customer because they didn't immediately answer is not.
A wedding vendor will spend one of the most important days of your life around your family and friends. Professionalism, patience, and respect matter. Based on our experience, Rodney demonstrated none of those qualities when faced with something as ordinary as a missed phone call.
Both my fiancée and I downloaded and saved the voicemail. I would be happy to share the recording with anyone who questions the accuracy of this review so they can listen for themselves and draw their own conclusions.
Needless to say, we will not be doing business with him, and I encourage anyone considering his services to think carefully about whether this is the level of professionalism they want from someone representing their wedding or special event.
