First of all, Lady Aswell is very friendly and accommodating. She gets back with you right away and answers all questions in a timely manner. We had plenty of food the day of th...
e wedding and a ton left over. The food was good. I would not say exceptional but good. It could have been a little warmer but no big deal. My 4-star vs 5 is due to the following. 1. Being told during the ceremony that the bartenders came early so they are going to leave early and I would have to pay extra if I wanted them to stay. It is not my fault they came early and should not have been interrupted during the reception (dancing) to be told this. 2. Guests being told they could only have one meat chicken or steak which is why I had to throw away so much beef because chicken was the first one in the buffet line and no one knew until they went to get the steak and were told no. 3. I ordered mini cheesecakes thinking these be homemade little cheesecakes. When I was cleaning up that night, I saw the cheese cake box that came from Costco (Kirkland) cheesecakes. Believe me I paid a lot more for those Kirland cheesecakes then I should have. I should have been told upfront this is what they would be, and I could have taken that off my bill and bought them myself. 4. Now this is just some advice. Don't message the mother of the bride the night before the wedding and say "see you tomorrow God willing."
We hired Crown Royal Catering, led by Lady Alswell, for our wedding (guest count: 167). From the beginning, Lady Alswell was very kind and clearly wanted to help us stay within our...
budget—she even worked to match another caterer’s quote, which we truly appreciated. She was also flexible, allowing us to build a menu outside her standard offerings, including a special vegan meatloaf based on our personal recipe, which meant a lot to us. The food itself was delicious, and many of our guests shared how much they enjoyed it.
That said, our experience leading up to the wedding was more stressful than we had hoped. There was some initial confusion around our final quote and previously discussed discounts, which required a fair amount of follow-up to resolve.
One area that was particularly frustrating involved the vegan meatloaf. We had been told that the tasting would reflect our exact recipe made with our specified ingredients. While the version we tasted was good, it didn’t seem to fully match what we had provided. Then, just a few days before the wedding, we were contacted with questions about where to purchase key ingredients from the recipe. This made it clear that our specific recipe had not actually been prepared for the tasting as we had understood, which was disappointing and undermined our confidence in that part of the process.
On the day of the wedding, we also encountered some concerns with service. While we had understood there would be a staffed team, the individuals serving the food appeared to be minors. We also observed some questionable food handling practices (for example, touching hair while wearing gloves and continuing to serve food without changing them), which raised concerns for us.
Overall, while the food quality and Lady Alswell’s kindness stood out, the organization, communication, and service did not fully meet our expectations for a large event like a wedding. We think her catering may be a better fit for smaller, more flexible gatherings where the logistics are simpler.
