We had our wedding on the Cherry Blossom in Alexandria and it was the best party of our lives. Every time you step onto the Cherry Blossom riverboat whether as a tour, your final w...alkthrough, or your rehearsal, it makes you feel giddy and genuinely feels like you’re in Disneyland. It is the perfect venue in which the dancefloor is small and intimate so that it never feels empty and when everyone’s out there it feels packed and lively. For any of your guests that prefer not to dance the space is full of beautiful vistas across all the railings and upper decks to just hangout and enjoy the serene night air and passing waters with. There is no sea sickness at all to be concerned about and truly you can barely tell you’re on the water when you’re indoors, when you’re outdoors there’s a gentle and cool breeze on your face (use so much hairspray for your ceremony). The crew blew the boat’s whistle for us when we were pronounced man and wife, the paddlewheel makes that gentle water-slapping sound that you know you love, the interior is so nicely put together that you really don’t need much decor, and Steffanie, our City Cruises-provided day of coordinator, got married on a boat herself and was instantly enthusiastic about our own wedding.
Steffanie was firm and responsive in her communication, was able to gently guide us towards the best options for the wedding that we wanted, checked on us frequently throughout the night, truly listened to us when we said we wanted something and wasn’t afraid to push against other vendors or family members when they were doing something that was against our wishes. She nudged us appropriately whenever we needed to keep the schedule moving to prioritize the things we ourselves asked her to prioritize, and was able to logic ourselves out of many confusions with her advice or literal boots on the ground experience. For instance she has, I quote: “Bustled more dresses than I can count”, she saved my wife from cutting the sleeves off of her dress between ceremony and reception by proposing an alternative, made sure we were eating food, brought passed hors d'oeuvres to us when we couldn’t partake in cocktail hour because of photos, guided us to invite X many guests for a roughly Y number of attendees, and she correctly let us know that the pilot deck standing room overflow for our 85 person wedding actually was enjoyed and preferred by the younger guests. Long before our wedding night, after dealing with some of our still functional but less stellar other vendors, we were already saying to ourselves “Thank goodness we have Steffanie.” Steffanie was so invaluable to the smoothness of our wedding I cannot understate her performance and caliber.
We have been leaving honest reviews of all our vendors, trying to be level-headed about how food was excellent but the caterer’s communication was wonky, or how the dance party was great but the DJ failed to play our “Must Plays”. We have been trying to acknowledge the flaws of our perfect night adequately for everyone else’s upcoming consideration, which I bring this up to you to emphasize that I have absolutely NO reservations about the Cherry Blossom, its crew, and its coordinator’s excellent excellent service as our wedding venue of choice. We’ve been telling each other ever since that more people, no, Everyone. Should get married on a boat.
The Cherry Blossom, City Cruises, and Steffanie facilitated the best and most perfect night of our lives. Five stars, easily.
