About this vendor
We are James and Christy Tyler, a husband and wife wedding photography team based out of the beautiful city of Chicago (but travel anywhere to shoot)! Christy started shooting weddings in 2008 and James joined her in 2010. We feel so blessed to be able to do this full-time together and really devote ourselves to our clients.
We love what we do and are so honored to work with the world's BEST clients. (We're not biased, I swear.) We believe this is about so much more than just showing up on your wedding day and snapping some photos! This is about the entire experience - from the moment you first email us until you're holding your album in your hands and beyond.
It is with the knowledge of having documented weddings for over 18 years and the hindsight of once being a bride and groom ourselves that we run our business. That is why from day one we work to iron out your wedding day timeline (even before you book with us) because it is so important to us that we help you craft a day that is stress-free, relaxed and fun! We ensure that every little detail is covered so you won’t have to worry about a thing when the day arrives. Because of that - you will feel a sense of ease that allows you to be fully present and just enjoy your day! And that sense of ease translates into the honest, joyful, and relaxed images you see in our portfolio - and that you can expect from your day as well.
We are nostalgic at heart and pride ourselves on our honesty and vulnerability. We believe it is that openness and connectedness we feel to others and their stories that allows us to capture the most precious memories on your day in a way that other photographers simply cannot. Our goal is always to capture moments that you may not have even seen happen in real time on your day... a subtle look between your parents, a touch of your loves’ hand on your back, or your friends’ heads rolled back in laughter. We want you to look back at the collection of beautiful imagery from your day and remember not just how it looked, but exactly how it felt to be surrounded by everyone you love.
If you're interested in learning more about us - hop over to the blog or website where we share lots more information about each of us, stories from our life, and lots of photos of our three kiddos and crazy dog, Samara! ;)

Christy and James were the absolute dream team. We can not imagine the day being as special and perfect as it was without them. From the moment we met Christy on zoom, we were abso...
lutely hooked by her warm demeanor, calm presence, and clear communication. Christy, from bride- Thank you SO much for being the most calming, encouraging, sweet presence all throughout the day. My only wish is that we had more time together because you were truly amazing. I am not always super confident taking individual photos but you made me feel like the prettiest bride possible and soooo loved. Nothing phased you from having to switch photo locations, to the rain — which we somehow got so lucky with, and I never felt an ounce of stress. Thank you for making all of my photography visions come true and more. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart, we love you!!!
James from Groom- Thank you so incredibly much for all of your help and support yesterday. I will never forget that moment my button popped off and we both looked at each with an “oh crap” look on our faces 🤣 but anytime I was ever worried or nervous, your calming presence and humor helped me get back to being present. I truthfully would not have had the best day ever without your support. Thanks again so so much.
Now let's talk about the photos... They were more perfect than we ever could have imagined. If you need a photographer for ANY event at all, you must use Christy and James. There's simply no other option....

irst consultation call, we knew immediately that we were going to hire them and we have zero regrets.
They made us feel completely comfortable in front of the camera and captured every genuine moment without ever feeling intrusive. They were organized, calm, and always in the right place at the right time. The photos are stunning, full of emotion, and truly tell the story of our day. We still tear up going through our photos and will treasure them forever!! I am so grateful for them and know they will forever capture our family moments going forward!
I don’t even know where to start for Christy and James. You cannot find more incredible people, both in relation to their professional talents but also just who they are as individ...
uals. Throughout our engagement session with Christy, we were laughing the entire time and immediately felt like we were hanging out with an old friend. As two people who are not the most comfortable in front of the camera, Christy put us at ease and made us even more excited for our wedding day. Then, a year later, we were truly blessed with getting to spend our entire day with both Christy and James. The day felt so seamless and relaxing, due in large part to their presence. Christy and James were so kind and engaging with our family members and friends, they truly felt like part of our family by the end of the day. Both of them went above and beyond to make sure they were attentive to what was most important to us, but also guided us with their professional experience in making sure we were pleased with all of the photos from our day. We cannot thank them enough and were so honored to have them as part of our special day.
We HIGHLY recommend booking Christy Tyler Photography for you wedding/engagement photos and experience. From our very first phone call with Christy I knew she was a perfect fit for...
us. She was kind, efficient, passionate, energetic and professional. She eagerly met my requests of photographs with our dog, with a getaway car and with champagne pops. She also remembered that I loved the look of film and took film photos on our wedding day to capture dreamy, candid moments. During both the engagement shoot and wedding day, she put me and my husband at ease and we truly felt like ourselves through the whole process. Her and James captured the PURE love, emotion and joy of our day. I cannot recommend this vendor enough.
We cannot say enough amazing things about Christy! Starting with our first conversation, we could tell how much she loves her job. From the engagement shoot to the wedding day its...
elf, Christy (and James!) were absolutely wonderful. Weddings can be hectic, and we felt so lucky to be surrounded by vendors who put us at ease and whom we genuinely enjoyed being around. Plus the photos turned out beautifully!! Christy and James managed to capture all the love and joy of the day, especially the candid moments. We're so grateful to them for documenting these special memories for us - HIGHLY RECOMMEND

y, both Christy and James were a calming, friendly presence and captured not only beautiful posed photos, but some amazing candids that really captured the joy and excitement of the day! Really amazing couple to work with!
I cannot say enough amazing things about this vendor. The owner, Christy, is wonderful to work with - she's responsive, caring, understanding, flexible and (of course) most importa...
ntly an amazing photographer and business owner.
We booked CTP in June 2019 for our August 2020 wedding. CTP came as a recommendation from 2 previous colleagues. The booking and proposal process was easy to decide on with Christy's help and guidance. She is very genuine and upfront about what she'll provide and what to expect with her services - you know you're getting the right price for the right services. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, we had to postpone our wedding 9 months to the following May 2021. It was a difficult decision - Christy truly understood and empathized what we were going through while needing to postpone, rebook, cut/change the guest list, etc. She helped us hold everything together, I'm sure while working to maintain her own business during those uncertain times. Due to postponing, we had to move our ceremony time up, change the ceremony location, and rework a few other details - all things that Christy was able to follow along and switch up with no issues.
The best part about CTP is that you get to know and love Christy while you await your big day. From the check-ins, emails, engagement shoot, and personalized texts, Christy always made sure that we felt we were the most important client-couple to her. The second best thing about Christy is her partner - James. We had the duo photographing us for our big day (we booked CTP knowing we wanted two shooters to make sure no special moment was missed). The amount of jokes and laughter that James had for us was so spot-on for keeping us and our bridal party entertained and happy for our very long day.
We couldn't be happier with our choice to have CTP memorialize our special day. Your big day only lasts a few hours, but a picture lasts a lifetime. Our pictures are unbelievably stunning and we couldn't be happier with them.
Working with Christy & James was one of the best decisions of our wedding - words cannot describe our incredible experience!

ptured so many special moments, and everything turned out beautifully!
My husband typically hates taking photos but Christy & James put him at ease and he actually enjoyed it. They are so sweet and fun to work with! They truly love what they do.
They were very flexible with dates, schedules, outfit changes, and were super responsive. They were also very thorough in ensuring they were exceeding our expectations and capturing the types of photos we wanted (including champagne toasts, confetti tosses & glitter bombs). Christy also sent super detailed schedules and helped guide our day of schedule along with our coordinator and DJ. They were also very timely on both occasions, including our destination wedding in Michigan.
We received our photos very quickly after each event, including sneak peeks right away and the full album in record time compared to our many friends and family members who got married around us. We received over 1000 beautiful wedding photos that were organized for easy posting & sharing. Christy also writes the cutest blog posts for each occasion that you can share.
They sent us special surprises throughout the two years we worked together, which was so sweet! Especially how they delivered our photos in the end!
We cannot wait to work with them again for every future occasion! We couldn’t be happier!
It’s hard to put how incredible it has been to work with Christy into words!
We postponed our wedding due to COVID, and in the nearly two years of communication with Christy she ...
was always quick to respond, communicated clearly, and provided excellent tips/recommendations.
We had to postpone our engagement photos THREE times due to weather, and she made that frustrating task such a breeze.
Both Christy and James were both so friendly and warm, and made us both as well as our bridal party feel comfortable in front of the camera, all while giving coherent directions to a group of 17 in busy Chicago settings, which totally deserves applause!!
For individual & couples portraits, Christy gave us tons of clear direction. It is pretty intimidating getting in front of a camera for the first time, but she gave us super clear cues on hand placement, etc. to make it so easy and natural!!
FINALLY - she put her years of wedding experience to use by helping us map out our day-of timeline, down to the minute, which I (and our venue) am so grateful for!! She basically doubled as a wedding planner at times :)
If you book with Christy & James, you can expect excellent communication, experienced recommendations and advice, and incredible photography to commemorate your most special life moments.
Plus, she is AWESOME on social media and I love seeing her stories, posts, etc. each day of different shoots as well as their precious family :)
If we had to do it all over we would book with Christy + James in a heartbeat!!!
Thank you both for everything!!

t came to weather (tornadoes and torrential downpours, lol!) and most importantly, took the most wonderful pictures of our special day for us to remember forever. Thank you so much, Christy and James!

isty and her husband did absolutely just that!! They not only captured all the big moments but all the small ones that truly made this day so special. Thanks to them we have beautiful memories and photos to reminisce on and to relive.
Christy and James photographed our wedding in October 2020 and I have literally hundreds of reasons to hire Christy and James IMMEDIATELY - each reason lives in our online photo ga...
llery! We cherish every single photo they captured of our special day. Every time I log onto our wedding gallery I discover a new favorite photo, even 4 months later. They are professionals from start to finish. Christy is easy to communicate with and gets back to you thoroughly and quickly. They brought equipment for every lighting scenario and just really floored us with their professionalism the day of, let alone the gorgeous photographs they captured. The quality of each photo is unreal. I received our photo gallery super fast, which could be because of the timing of the pandemic regarding weddings/gatherings but I was very surprised how fast we received everything.
Christy did our engagement photo session as well, which I really recommend because it's a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera. Christy is so professional and knows exactly how to direct you into poses that look natural and result in an entire gallery of photos that are each unique and perfectly framed. I don't know how she does it! She truly has a gift and you can tell how much she enjoys her job. Her personality is perfect for the job - I immediately feel at ease with her.
Both Christy and James photographed our wedding and they worked so hard the entire day; I felt very confident knowing they were capturing candid moments as well as the list of photos I requested. I have no idea when they took breaks because they were shooting all day and night! The photography was the most important decision for us, since we had a small wedding due to the pandemic we needed to be confident that we would have amazing photos to share with our friends and family who wouldn't be there. They delivered on every single item. It was also important to us that our vendors take COVID-19 precautions very seriously and we felt very comfortable with them.
From our initial email exchanges and phone calls, to the warmest texts, to unexpected gifts and bonus wedding prints and ongoing communication even months later, these guys are the real deal. They go above and beyond and truly I would base my wedding date around their availability. We are lifelong customers!

rvous about all the attention on us, but Christy and James immediately put us at ease. Christy was great at giving us direction (like what to do with our hands) without it ever feeling intrusive. Our photos were available quickly and there were so many amazing ones, we can't stop looking at them. They perfectly captured our true personalities and relationship. Christy was so prepared and gave us a detailed timeline to make sure we got all of the groupings and types of photos we wanted. They perfectly captured the whole day, including so many details I barely saw the day of. They also captured our relationships with our friends and family so well that I know we'll all be treasuring these photos for decades. Christy was also great helping us plan for engagement pictures, including suggesting locations since we live out of state and being flexible when COVID forced us to change our travel plans. I cannot recommend Christy and James highly enough!
Christy and James are absolutely amazing. They were wonderful to work with from start to finish. Not only are our pictures stunning, but they made the entire photo process so easy ...
and comfortable on the day. They asked for a list for family photos in advance (so smart) which made the group photos go really smoothly. Booking Christy and James was one of the easiest and best decisions we made for our wedding, and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone!
This review is long overdue but honestly, the more time that's passed since our wedding, the more I appreciate the work Christy and James did for us. I find myself scrolling throug...
h our beautiful, timeless photos all the time and smiling to myself reliving all the various moments of our wedding day. We have had countless people tell us how stunning our photos are and as a result, have asked us if we'd recommend working with Christy and James for their own weddings, to which our answer is always "YES, don't even look at anyone else and book them now while you can!!"
They are extremely professional and on top of things while also making you feel at ease and in the moment; I knew from my first conversation with Christy that she was going to take care of us and did she ever. My husband looked at me while we were taking family photos and said "Christy is a BOSS!" - he is correct. She helped us make sure we captured all the photos we wanted while also having plenty of time to just be present with our guests and each other.
Christy was also extremely responsive throughout the process, helping me choose wedding photo locations and providing a timeline of our photography package down to 5-15 minute increments (SO helpful - I built the rest of my day of timeline off hers!). We simply cannot recommend Christy and James enough - you will love them as much as we do!!!

)!! They are just absolutely amazing. Not only as photographers but as people too! Their work is just breathtaking. What I love about them is their work isn’t edited to the point where you can tell like some photographers .. your photos will be so natural. They also capture all the little and most memorable moments throughout your wedding day. Some of the photos they captured just showed mine and my husbands love so well. Once you meet them you will immediately click with them... I truly felt like I’ve known them my whole life and that’s what you want when someone is capturing one of the most amazing days of your life. They have so much passion for their job and they only want the best for you and know exactly what to capture so you have the best memories possible.. they just get it... !!! I have nothing but the best things to say about them. We just love them!

concerns right away. Since I did not have a wedding planner she helped me out with a day of timeline and explained how things normally worked. When it came to be wedding time they showed up early and ready to go! I cant say enough about how helpful Christy and James were and how they kept us on track/calmed my nerves. She even directed the bus driver when he missed the entrance for our photos! They were so kind and bent over backwards for us. I would point anyone who is planning a wedding Christy and James way. THEY WERE PERFECT.

Her blog posts made it super easy to share the photos with our loved ones, both near and far, and it made us feel special as a client. Actually each note, each gift made us feel special as a client, her kind words meant a lot to me during all the other stressful moments of planning a wedding. I hope to work with Christy again in the future for other photography needs!

e wedding day and she is extremely responsive via email. Engagement shoot is included in the package which is also pretty great!! She also posts some sneak peeks on Facebook and will do a blog post for both your engagement and wedding photos, as well as provide an entire online library (for both) and flash drive (for the wedding only). The day of the wedding they were the calming presence that we needed, and during the reception they completely blended in with our guests. Overall would highly recommend!
