We got married in August, and I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on this venue. The venue itself is truly unique, magical, and exactly what I envisioned. Unfortunately, the staff ...coordination, communication, some preferred vendors, and overall organization did not meet expectations for the price point.
We chose the inclusive package, which came with significant issues. It took months of back-and-forth emails just to try to schedule a cake tasting with the included baker, only to later be told the venue was no longer working with her. She would honor my date but still wouldn’t provide a tasting, so I ultimately had to find another baker.
The inclusive package includes only 8 hours (2pm–10pm). With a 5pm ceremony, this left no time for hair and makeup, essentially forcing us to purchase additional hours. It cost $967 just to enter at 11am, which feels unreasonable given the $20,500 venue buyout alone (before food, drinks, gratuity, and taxes).
On the wedding day, my planner and day-of coordinator appeared extremely stressed and were constantly running around fixing issues. I barely saw them, and many moments fell to other vendors or even us. My photographer handed me my bouquet for the toss, the DJ began the Hora before chairs were set up (my family scrambled to fix this mid-dance), and overall it felt like my husband and I were managing the flow of the day ourselves. While navigating rain plans and learning my chuppah couldn’t be moved, I remember feeling overwhelmed and just wanting the day to be over—something I never expected to feel on my wedding day.
One of my biggest disappointments was that rose petals were never placed down the aisle, despite this being one of my main visions for the ceremony. It still hurts to think about.
Transportation was the biggest issue and nearly derailed the entire wedding. The transportation company recommended by the planning service went to the wrong location, argued with guests, and almost caused accidents on the mountain road at night. While this wasn’t directly Castle Ladyhawke’s fault, the venue advertises “valet” services but had no staff directing buses or traffic. There was no parking team, no radio communication, and cars were nearly colliding in the dark. Some Castle staff had to run down the mountain to help direct traffic. This was a major safety concern, and I am incredibly grateful no one was hurt. Guests were extremely stressed getting to and from the venue, whether driving or using transportation. Some guests were stuck at the venue until midnight waiting to be able to leave.
I do want to highlight some positives: Karen, the officiant included with the venue, was absolutely wonderful, and DJ Dow Oak Events was phenomenal. The drink services and my specialty cocktail was so yummy. All the food was good! Renee’s bakery did a great job on my cake and cannolis.
With the help of my family and friends, I still had a meaningful and beautiful day. However, I truly wish Castle Ladyhawke would take this feedback seriously and improve their organization, communication, safety planning, and package structure to better reflect the luxury experience and price point they promise.
