I don’t take leaving negative reviews lightly, but after exhausting every attempt to resolve this privately, I feel obligated to share my experience.
In late September 2025, I ...
booked Black Swan Floral Design for my July 24, 2026 wedding and paid a nearly $1,500 retainer. Along with my proposal, Leah told me, “We can talk more of the details next week and adjust the proposal as necessary.” That conversation never happened.
From the time I signed the contract in late September until I reached out myself in early January 2026, over three months later, I did not receive a single phone call, planning consultation, design meeting, proposal revision, or follow-up. There was no discussion of flowers, colors, quantities, budget adjustments, or any of the planning I was told would take place after booking. Aside from a few initial emails to secure the date, there was complete silence.
After the unexpected loss of my father, my fiancé and I made the incredibly difficult decision to move our wedding. We notified Leah approximately seven months before our original wedding date. Considering no planning had begun, no services had been provided, and no work had been completed, I requested that my retainer be refunded.
Leah declined a full refund, explaining that she had reserved the date, but also stated that if she booked another wedding for that weekend, she would be open to discussing a partial refund.
I replied the very same day, respectfully explaining why I believed a refund was reasonable based on the circumstances and the fact that no planning had ever taken place.
That was the last communication I received.
Since then, I have sent additional emails, made multiple phone calls, left a voicemail, and sent a text message. Every single attempt has gone unanswered. Months later, I am still being completely ignored.
I understand that retainers exist to protect small businesses. This review is not simply about the money. It is about professionalism, communication, and honoring commitments made to clients. Promising a planning call that never happens, going more than three months with no communication after booking, and then completely ignoring every follow-up after saying you would revisit the matter has been incredibly disappointing.
If communication, responsiveness, and follow-through are important to you when choosing a wedding vendor, I encourage you to consider my experience carefully before booking.
Leah was an absolutely incredible person to work with and is insanely talented in her craft. From the moment I saw Leah's work, I knew I would be so lucky to have her as our floris...
t, but from the moment I spoke with her I knew this was exactly the right fit for us. As someone who knows pretty much nothing about flowers other than what looks pretty, I knew I needed to book a florist that would take my vision and bring it to life and who was willing to make suggestions and guide me in the right direction. Leah was extremely clear in her communication (despite the challenges we faced of wedding planning during a pandemic) and because her level of expertise was so clear in the communication and in her portfolio I knew I could place my full trust in her and could sort of "check this off my list" because I knew she had it covered. As we all know, flowers can be very expensive, and I had a rather large wedding. Leah helped guide me to cut or add based on our space and needs and was never "in if for the money" but very honest and helpful to make sure that our vision came to life within our budget. On the day of, Leah and her team were so efficient despite having several different spaces in our venue to set up. I really have never seen a more stunning bouquet in my life - it was exactly what I was envisioning and I really don't know how they possibly got it so perfect. And when I saw my jaw dropped seeing my arbor arrangement and then my reception space - it was truly the most stunning works of art and I could not be more happy with the final results. Leah and her team are complete experts, with very kind souls, and made the wedding planning journey a bit easier for us. I am so happy that we were able to work together and cannot thank them enough for bringing our vision to life and for all their support along the way. Don't hesitate - book them now!!!

ne calls with me to learn what I was looking for, and I gave her some freedom to surprise me as well and I am so glad she did! She is creative and SO SO talented. My venue planner told me that the setup of our reception area was her favorite that she has ever seen- and that is because of Leigh! I would get married all over again just to see what she can come up with next! THANK YOU! - Anna & Mark 7/17/21

Black Sheep Gardens/Leah are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The flowers were definitely important to me for my wedding, but I'm not an expert. I was able to give Leah a vague description of w...
hat I liked/my vision, and she took it and ran with it.
The flowers FLOORED me when I walked into my wedding venue. I had to take a walk around the venue with my mom for a very special 10 minutes just to marvel Leah's beautiful, stunning, awe-inspiring work. She went above and beyond and absolutely blew through the ceiling of my expectations.
The table flowers, the creative displays, the bouquets, the greenery details throughout the venue were just amazing. All of our guests were complimenting the flowers all night, all day the next day, and still, months later, people are talking about the beautiful flowers.
Leah also actively helped us work together to pick out the best detials for our tables, candles, and gave opinions on what she thought would work best. This was so so helpful. She was really a part of our wedding team that made the day so beautiful.
If you're looking for a florist.....just stop looking and contact Black Sheep Gardens!!

. She was organized and clear in all of our interactions. She was so easy to work with and executed everything flawlessly and then some! All my guests including myself were so blown away by all the floral arrangements and table settings. They were stunning! She really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, making changes along the way as needed and making suggestions when couldn’t decide. She created mood boards and a detailed proposal so we knew exactly what we were getting. We can’t thank her enough for making our wedding weekend so very special. If you are having your wedding in the Adirondacks, you have to go with Black Sheep Gardens. I can’t express enough how great they are.
Black Sheep Gardens was a great pick to go with for our wedding in Lake Placid! We went with a really simple style (greenery on the tables) and they completely hit the mark. I appr...
eciated their honestly when I asked to go with loose greenery to save money and they explained how it would look too scarce and we needed a fuller look to keep that elegant feel I was looking for. They are definitely more expensive, but I feel like it is to be expected in that area. I made a lot of changes to our order as time went on so I also appreciated them being so flexible with me. My only regret was that I wish when they dropped the bouquets off that they stopped in to say hello so I could thank them in person! Black Sheep does wonderful work and you won't be disappointed.
I am thrilled to have worked with Leah on my daughter's wedding at Lake Placid Lodge! From our very first conversation until our last, Leah was on top of every single detail. My ...
daughter had very specific flowers and a particular look that she envisioned, and Leah brought it to life absolutely beautifully. The OUTSTANDING quality of the flowers Leah used to create her stunning designs was like nothing we've ever seen before...sheer perfection! Thank you, Leah...you were a joy to work with!
I can't recommend Black Sheep Gardens enough. I was very unsure on what I wanted for my florals, only had Pinterest photos that I liked. Leah helped me choose the right flowers and...
style for my wedding. She even went out of her way and made a beautiful floral hair clip for my mom instead of a traditional wrist arrangement. When I saw them on the day of, I was blown away... they were exactly what I wanted and more. Their floral arrangements will make you want to get married again and again, just so you can hire them.

fter that. After a detailed phone call with Leah, I booked her as my first local vendor in the area of Lake Placid. It was the best decision! When I walked into my wedding venue and saw everything that was put together by Leah, I fell so in love!! So many of my guests couldn’t stop raving about the centerpieces & the garland that ran across the mantle and our head table. Everything was just perfect. Not having to worry about floral placement and design was such a big stress relief in the process of planning a wedding and on our wedding day - Leah handled it all! Having a local vendor is definitely worth every penny - they know what they’re doing!!! Trust them — you will love it!
One of our favorite vendors to work with! Leah at Black Sheep Gardens is so creative, thoughtful, and responsive! We were truly blessed to be able to hire Black Sheep Gardens for ...
our Fall bridal shower and Winter wedding. She went above and beyond to put all of my thoughts into a cohesive and beautiful display of floral arrangements!
Leah was a pleasure to work for. She listened to my ideas and carried them out effectively. We hadn't counted on rain for our ceremony but Leah quietly did some rearranging of the ...
flowers indoors as needed. All the arrangements were stunning -- the large arrangements, the bride's bountiful bouquet, the table center pieces, the boutonnieres and corsages and on down to the baby's hair wreath. We received compliment after compliment on all the flowers. Thank you, Leah

alent for creating beautiful flowers and were so creative, calm, personal, understanding, genuine and fun to work with! Our flowers are still one of the #1 remarks people make when reminiscing about our wedding and when we look back at photos, we are still amazed at how they did it and how it all added to the beauty of the day. Leah and Pam truly love what they do and evoke true artistry and genuine passion and excitment for their work and your special day in every interaction. They really listen to what you want and are just as excited as you to see the vision come to life. If you want florists who listen to your vision, share their knowledge and work to create something beautiful and unique to you that will leave you speechless, Leah and Pam are the best of the best.

going for. Leah was quick to respond to all of my emails, and was very flexible when I wanted to make any changes. All of our arrangements were absolutely perfect and I can’t recommend Black Sheep Gardens enough! Thank you Leah and Pam for adding beautiful touches to our day and making it so special!
Black Sheep provided floral arrangements and bouquets for both my rehearsal dinner and wedding this past summer. They were absolutely gorgeous, beyond our expectations!

m perfectly captured the theme we wanted, using a mixture of different colors and textures to create works of art. The larger arrangements were absolutely stunning, and I was so impressed by their creativity and artistry. We received so many compliments and many guests took the flowers home.
Leah and Pam were very easy to work with and always professional. They even invited us to their studio to see flowers and sample arrangements in person, to help us decide on our order.
Their pricing is not cheap, but we found them about on par with comparable vendors in the area. I thought their creativity and attention to detail was well worth it, and I would definitely recommend them!
I can't say enough about how happy I was with Leah and Pam for my wedding flowers. I reached out to them after having a negative experience with another Lake Placid area florist. ...
They were easily my most responsive vendor, which was important as I was planning the wedding from another state. They always took the time to go over all the details and prices with me, which I'm sure wasn't always easy, being how indecisive I am and how I constantly waited till the last minute to make a decision. They never seemed to lose patience with me. My bouquets and reception decor arrived completely on time and looked exactly as I had imagined, which was hard, considering I had a mash-up of pictures that I gave them for my ultimate choice - somehow they did it! My reception looked beautiful too; so many guests told me how classy it looked and how well it complimented the venue. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say - except that I wish flowers in general were cheaper so that I could have used their talents even more!

I had originally visioned. They were also super helpful in working with me to make sure I stayed under a set budget. When we first met I had told them about everything we’d potentially want for our wedding as if budget wasn’t an option. Then they worked with me to see where we could cut costs or simplify arrangements in order to stay under a specific budget. On top of all that they were super friendly and cheerful to work with. You can clearly tell that flowers are their passion and that they truly care about making each and every person’s wedding day special.
Leah and Pam were fantastic to work with! They are both very talented florists, but have a unique gift in their ability understand exactly what their clients want. I did my researc...
h on centerpieces, bouquets, and other floral arrangements, but did not know enough about flowers to make specific requests. Visiting Pam and Leah in their studio, they took my few ideas and pictures of what I liked, and created flowers for our wedding day that were even more beautiful than I could have imagined. They were always easy to get a hold of, quick to respond, and very organized. They are also so experienced with working with weddings. They made the morning seamless when dropping off and setting up the flowers. They dropped flowers at multiple locations (in the pouring rain!) with smiles on their faces. Seeing my bouquet was a highlight of my wedding morning. They really helped to make our vision become reality!
Absolutely so pleased with my experience working with Black Sheep Gardens for my wedding flowers. Every arrangement was so beautiful and unique. I definitely reccommend them!

pril, and while I love flowers, I don't know much about them/what would be reasonable to expect to be readily available for that time of year. Leaving it in their capable hands was definitely the right call, because everything turned out beyond beautifully! (One photo I love from our wedding day is of me receiving my bridal bouquet and the look of sheer excitement on my face!)
We admittedly did not have a huge budget for flowers (our main concern was the bouquets, then some greenery for our reception tables and a couple of additional accent arrangements for our reception), but Leah and Pam were extremely understanding about this and never tried to sell us anything more or anything less than exactly what we wanted. I had been admiring their work on social media for months before taking the plunge and booking them for our wedding, and I couldn't be happier that I did!
My husband and I decided to get married on a Monday, and had the ceremony that Friday with just our immediate family at the town office, and then we went right back to work for the...
rest of the day. Knowing it was going to be a low key event, I didn’t even get a new dress. But my husband surprised me with a big, absolutely gorgeous, lush bouquet from Black Sheep Gardens that was the most beautiful arrangement I have ever seen. It dried perfectly, and still smells good. I will treasure it forever.
We loved working with Leah & Pam! They had great vision and impreccable communication. Our venue and wedding planner highly recommended this company and we couldn’t have asked for ...

We found this local floral designer by looking at bouquets and the style was just what my daughter wanted. Loose and lush and natural. Leah and her mother worked with us to design ...
all the bouquets , boutonnières and a greenery garland. She was helpful when we had to change the men’s color scheme with a no problem attitude. They kindly let me borrow the buckets I needed. The flowers were just gorgeous!
I cannot even begin to tell you how beautiful our flower arrangements were. We decided on a winter, outdoor ceremony, on the ice in lake placid, and when consulting with Leah and ...
Pam from Black Sheep Gardens, they recommended we stick with our vision of elegant wild bouquets with a lot of greenery and pops of wild roses and peonies, as it would contrast well against the snow and then could easily be taken indoors to double as decorations against the fireplaces and warm wood interior. While I knew what I liked, I wasn't good at explaining it. Leah and Pam took the reigns and began showing me things in their portfolio and since everything was so beautiful that I ultimately left it up to them. I mentioned that budget was important and they stayed within my guidance while significantly overdelivering on what I thought I could get for my budget. I have never seen more beautiful arrangements and I have been to a lot of weddings. I wish I could upload the photos here because I know you would agree.

t then were very open to their thoughts and creativity. In the end-everything turned out amazing! The bouquets, boutonnieres, flower girl lanterns, altar piece, pew decor and center pieces were all incredible. The standout piece was our sweetheart table! Leah found these massive Elk antlers that we ended up buying and bringing back with us to be the main part of our centerpiece. There were also gorgeous flowers the compliment the antlers! In addition to all of this, there was a beautiful flower wall behind us. Everything was so much more incredible and gorgeous than we could have ever imagined! Even our priest mentioned the shotgun shell boutonnieres during the ceremony! We highly recommend them for your wedding in Upstate New York!

ams and visions come to life! My centerpieces, bridal party flowers, and other arrangements just made my venue look amazing. Leah and Pam were professional, always easy to stay in contact with and very attentive to all the minor details. You could tell each piece was created with love and devotion for their business! I was so impressed with my flowers and their work. You can’t find a better florist for your wedding flowers than Black Sheep Gardens!

nued to fall in love over and over again. I contacted them in regards to my own wedding and set up a meeting with them. I don’t know the first thing about flowers, so I went into the meeting with only a color scheme. I basically told them to do whatever they thought would look best and I was not disappointed. My bouquets and boutonnières looked better than I ever could have imagined! I would recommend black sheep gardens again and again, their work is beyond beautiful and they are so easy to work with!

r relaxed, Boho-style wedding in Lake Placid.
I was a little nervous about going with a professional florist due to our low budget, but Leah and Pam were happy to work within our budget and never tried to ‘upsell’ me on more expensive arrangements or make us feel bad our budget. Quite the opposite, actually - I think they may have enjoyed the challenge of maximising our small budget, and they were so good in helping me prioritise where to spend on flowers.
Black Sheep’s 5* reviews and photos speak for themselves, and for that reason, I gave them the creative reigns for our wedding flower design. I showed them a couple of inspo photos for my bouquet, hairpiece, arbor arrangement and table arrangements, and they went from there. Their work exceeded my expectations. My bouquet was everything I dreamed of and more, and so many of our guests came up to us to rave about the gorgeous and unique arrangements. I can’t thank Pam and Leah enough for making our dream come true - without their creative expertise, we couldn’t have achieved the boho vibe we wanted.
Thank you so much to Black Sheep Gardens! And if you’re still reading this review - don’t hesitate to book Leah and Pam immediately! Their portfolio speaks for itself - they can work to any creative vision and budget. You will not be disappointed!

quick responses and clear proposals made the planning that much easier. On the wedding day our planner and Leah worked together to make sure everything arrived on time and looked perfect. Look no further for you wedding or event florist than the mom and daughter team at Black Sheep Gardens.

completely blew me away with her winter design. She delivered the bouquets a few hours before the ceremony and they were truly magnificent. The most beautiful flower arrangements I could have ever imagined! She was able to incorporate my bridal party color of plum into the arrangements which matched everyone perfectly and popped so nicely in our snowy photos! Everyone was blown away by the beauty.
I would highly recommend Black Sheep Gardens to any bride and groom!

Given we had a fall wedding, the colors they used for the flowers fit the setting so well. We are very pleased with the quality of their work. They even helped with putting on the groomsmen's boutonnieres!

ive during the entire planning process. They took the time to really listen and understand what I was looking for. In the age of Pinterest, it can probably be overwhelming for vendors to piece together the various visual references and sources of inspiration that clients send their way - to create the vision that lives in a client's mind for over a year. Leah and Pam did so masterfully for our summer wedding, combining little things from my numerous visual references, while sourcing most things from their beautiful farm. These ladies are excellent at what they do and supporting the legacy and history that they have built was special in its own right. I want to add that they worked diligently to ensure they stayed within our budget, which for me was key. Creative, talented, artistic, inspired, kind, local, environmentally conscious - there are so many positive words and phrases to describe Black Sheep's work. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I'm sure you'll be able to add to that list of descriptors after all is said and done. Don't hesitate - book Leah and Pam (and take a visit to their beautiful farm if you can)!

idal bouquets, succulent favors and eucalyptus displays were breathtakingly beautiful, far exceeding my expectations or any image I pinned to my Pinterest page.
More importantly however, this mother-daughter duo was a pleasure to work with! They were able to deliver on my color schemes, floral choices and execute my vision for a reasonable price. They were always extremely responsive to my emails, text messages and phone calls. Planning an out-of-state wedding is a challenge and Black Sheep Gardens gave me the utmost confidence that these arrangements would be perfect!
They truly went above and beyond to create a lovely atmosphere for our guests. There are not enough words to express our gratitude and we would recommend them to anyone planning a wedding or any other special event!

The day of the wedding was the first time I saw flowers in person and I was blown away. One of our guests even commented that the tablescapes were the prettiest flower displays she has ever seen. Thank you Leah and Pam for your hard work and commitment to your work - it clearly shows and we are incredibly grateful.

originally met with them I wasn’t sure exactly what kind of flowers I wanted for our wedding. They helped show me some designs and ideas and walked me through every step of the process. After leaving and spending a couple more weeks looking at wedding ideas, I completely changed my mind on what I wanted. A couple weeks before the wedding they patiently listened to my changes and ultimately came up with the PERFECT arrangements for our special day. Our bouquets were amazing and beautiful, all that I had wanted and more!! The centerpieces were bursting with color (which was a request of mine) and really stood out on all the tables. They love their jobs and it shows in all of their arrangements!! I strongly recommend them and know that they will make your day as special as ours

d get every detail just right. Pam has a gift for design and honestly, she made it a magical day. I had BIG, out of the box ideas for what I wanted and they made each and every one come true and even better than I thought! Not only that, they were in upstate NY, over 6 hours from my venue, but Pam felt like such a great fit and so perfect for what we wanted, I had to have her! They rented a refrigerated van and drove down and for such a reasonable price. Pam set everything up and I didn't have to worry about a thing! Minus the groom of course, the flowers we absolutely my favorite part of the wedding. :D I even dried several of my bouquets and still have them. I would highly recommend Black Sheep Barn and Gardens to anyone and everyone!

ors, and this was not an issue. My husband and I were able to meet with Pam and Leah once to begin the process, and we're very easily able to do the rest by email. When the coral flowers that I wanted were in high demand, and thus more expensive than I would have liked, Leah and Pam really worked with me to find coral flowers that I would be happy with within my budget. The only thing that I was slightly disappointed in was the more orange coral in some of the flowers in my bridesmaid bouquets. My bridal bouquet was stunning and exactly what I had envisioned! It, as well as all of the flowers held up extremely well. My wedding day was about 9-10 hours long, and the flowers didn't even begin to wilt or droop at all. I loved all the extra touches like how they wrapped the bridesmaids bouquets with the same navy blue ribbon that was wrapped around the centerpiece vases. We got so many compliments on our flowers, and I would highly recommend using Pam and Leah for your wedding.
