This caterer is an absolute nightmare to work with, and I would never recommend working with him. He was a complete mess and caused me an incredible amount of stress in the last mo...
nth of our wedding. Despite spending hours and hours going over all the details, he remained disorganized, unprofessional, rude, and disingenuous throughout the entire process.
Despite him being the neediest caterer I encountered, he still barely delivered his part. He needed so many additional vendors, like having me arrange rentals and bartenders, yet he could barely accomplish his own duties for the day. Below are the specific issues I had with him:
1) Unprofessional and disorganized: After every meeting, I would send a recap email to outline what we discussed. I truly believe he never read them. In the last 20 days before the wedding, he had no idea how much we had paid him, the menu, the final guest count, which guests had allergies, or what platter went where.
2) He attempted to overcharge us by ~$1.5K, and when confronted about his inconsistent numbers, he didn’t apologize or recognize he was wrong. His math NEVER made sense, but we felt like we had to overpay him even after meeting. We ended up overpaying him about ~$500 just to make it go away.
3) He was unprofessional and rude to our coordinator. We had to step in.
4) He changed the wedding timeline 3 days before the wedding and then accused my coordinator of not sending him the timeline, which was a lie. He had it for six weeks
5) During my wedding, he claimed to have made my show cake that my mother-in-law made for us separately. She found out, and she confronted him about his lies.
6) He showed up 1.5 hours late to the reception….
7) Dinner service took too long and was not effective.
8) With two days left, he asked that the bartenders serve water during dinner service… which was a separate vendor and not their responsibility
9) He charged us $65 a plate for vendor meals
10) Brought an UNAPPROVED photographer to my wedding without asking me for permission; that photographer was photographing my friends and family without our consent
There were so many issues and instances of dishonesty throughout the process. We were never the type of client who was rude, mean, or tried to cut corners. The only decent thing he did was make good food. But anyone putting together a wedding should NEVER have to deal with this much stress, dishonesty, and unprofessionalism. Thank God I had an amazing coordinator and team at Race & Religious who managed his disorganization and horrible service. I will never be using him again or recommend him to anyone in the New Orleans area.
My wife and I both worked in the service industry in New Orleans—me as a chef and my wife as a sommelier—so we have high standards for food. When we hired Chef David Hargrove and h...
is catering company, 2brother1love, for our 130-person wedding at Music Box Village, we were absolutely blown away by the level of care, creativity, and service he provided.
From the start, Chef David went above and beyond. He was incredibly communicative, listened closely to our needs, and worked with us to design a custom menu that reflected our tastes. Not only was the price more than fair compared to other options in New Orleans, but Chef David took the time to make sure every detail was perfect.
The food itself was phenomenal. For appetizers, we had fried green tomatoes with crab salad, quesadillas, watermelon and feta skewers, and tuna tartare in crispy wonton shells. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The tuna tartare was a standout—bright, spicy, and perfectly balanced.
For dinner, Chef David delivered an unforgettable feast. The braised lamb yassa with semolina dumplings was rich and succulent, while the seared salmon with lentils was perfectly cooked—no small feat for 130 guests! We also had Moroccan spiced chickpea stew, rice pilaf, stewed collard greens, and a halloumi-strawberry salad. Everything was seasoned to perfection, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about it. At one point, we had to provide to-go boxes because so many guests wanted to take the food home!
What really set Chef David apart, though, was how he went above and beyond throughout the entire event. In addition to preparing the food, he agreed to cut our wedding cake and serve coffee afterward—something that made a big difference and added such a personal touch. His attention to detail and the care his team took to ensure everything ran smoothly truly made our wedding day stress-free.
If you want creative, delicious food paired with outstanding service, Chef David is the way to go. He not only met our expectations but exceeded them in every way. We couldn’t recommend him more!
